I'll start with the easy ones:
1. My Windows ME has started to decide that it doesn't like finding files, and the search bar in folder views simply does sod all. Is there a way of sorting this out bar formating?
2. My copy of ME has also decided it doesn't like the image preview sidebar (set through folder options) and give out script errors about it. Again, is there a way of sorting this out bar formating?
3. Why does my brothers laptop run faster on some tasks? My PCs specs are a P4 2.4GHz, 256MB of RAM, Windows ME, and a GeForce 4 MX 128MB. I know thats not great but its better than my bros laptop which are P4 M 2.2GHz, 256 MB of RAM, Windows XP Home Edition, and intergrated Intel Extreme Grpahics 64MB. I can understand it... On most task the pc is faster, but on some his is faster, eg
Winamp Modern Skin visulisations that are build in to skins, his can run on 10ms refresh but mine can only cope with 50ms.
Mozilla running flash, on my pc this is jalty unless the mouse is constantly moved, on his it runs fine.
Its tasks that require constant prossesing of around 40%-70% CPU usage, his willl beat mine, but on tasks that run 100% mine will be substancally faster. Why is this? I have had a few thoughts:
ME is rubbish (which it is, BSOD etc all the time, which are definitly caused by the OS, as I dont get them under Linux CD. Unfourtnatly I can use this to compare programs as Linux is on CD and as such is very slow), and doesn't control the system very well.
His chipsets are better. Im using SIS ones that although are reliable with good drivers, I'm not sure how fast they are. His Chipsets are Intel (either 845Gs or 845PEs for the host bridge).
Can anywone tell me why?
Many thanks

Sounds a better way, I was thinking of doing that, but I think I would keep the ME partition just in case it didn't work.

Cheers, and it tis a really bad OS...
How easy was it to upgrade? I think I am coming round to the idea.
I think it's just the way ME is. I don't know anyone who has not had problems with it.
