Sato takes control

Takuma Sato has won the Brazilian Grand Prix with a fine display of car control in what can only be described as tricky, changeable conditions. The weather played a key role in the race as tyre choice was a difficult decision. The weather changed from damp to dry to really wet to drying again.

Amazingly, despite the tricky conditions, not many people spun on their own. Bruni was the first spinner of the race when he tried an overtaking move and got it totally wrong, narrowly avoiding hitting the car in front. Salo ran off the track late on in his bid to catch Sato.

The main damage to people's races was poor overtaking moves and bad tyre choices. Firman and Pizzonia touched wheels and spun on lap 8. Firman didn't lose much time but Pizzonia got beached in the gravel and was forced to retire. Raikkonen's car didn't like the wet conditions and was fighting to stay ahead of Montoya after he had seen a few cars overtake him. Raikkonen and Montoya take each other off the track, taking Da Matta with them. There could have been more cars but they managed to stay off the racing line.

Two other retirements to mention. Barrichello was fortunate to escape a huge smash. Barrichello had a throttle problem and he flew off the track and smashed into the barriers to retire on lap 25. Button was the only other retirement on lap 45 with a transmission problem.

Sato takes his 3rd career victory and the Championship lead with victory in Brazil. Salo escaped running off the track and a lot of late traffic to hold off everyone else and take 2nd place. Ralf Schumacher couldn't capitalise on traffic and mistakes but still made the podium in 3rd. Ferrari's fortunes are looking a bit better now with Michael Schumacher finishing 4th and Villeneuve finishing 5th. McLaren pick up some points with Coulthard finishing 6th. Baumgartner gets more points for 7th place and Fisichella fought off a whole train of cars to steal the final point in 8th.

As Mr T would say, I am helluva pi$$ed.

I miss out on a hat trick of wins in the prediction championship with a pretty miserable 7th, and then Button has a transmission failure. But at least I'm still 1st in predicting.

BTW, Grandprix, could you change it back to predicting fastest lap? Its far simpler.

Who the hell has been messing with my car? Someone must have? Bet it was the sore loser Badgerman, or something.

Heh, if it was any consolation, you were once again the closest to the time. :)

Not doing too bad on the predictions.

I'd love to see what would happen if I got in the top 5 in the qualifyers. Panis always seems to have a bad qualifying round and then nothces up a gear on the race.

Bah. Verstappen is doing rubbish so far this season. But I suppose I couldn't expect much more with him starting last on the grid.
