To router my USB modem? I will be getting LIVE again around the time of the release for Ninja Gaiden and am basically looking for a way I can run my broadband connection through a router so I don't have to have my PC turned on whilst playing on LIVE. BT were charging £129.99 for their's however I am sure there must be a cheaper and better way around it.

Any info appreciated, cheers.

Just going to order it now. My Xbox arrives on Monday but I can't be bothered with LIVE for a few more weeks but I want to get everything in place for when I do.

Basically I just need that modem and 2 straight ethernet cables? Is that all I will need outside of my existing Broadband connection to play LIVE without needing my PC on?

Cheers.

Nope, you won't need the USB modem. Or the crossover cables either for that matter, they will need to be straight through cables, the normal ones in other words. But at a quid for a metre long one, no big deal.

Ahh right, cheers.

I currently have a USB modem but have a few CAT5 crossover cables. I take it BT and the like don't enter the equation then? If so I will order the product Biggles gave me a link to a minute a go.

Basically to run LIVE without your pc on your router will aalso have to be your modem as well, i think the link that Biggles gave you is an ADSL modem/router combined, so that should be all you need. Bar the cables of course.

With a USB modem you won't be able to plug the modem into the router and just have a router, it would need to have been an ethernet modem for that.

So best thing to do is to just get an ADSL router (it is ADSL isn't it? Cable modems are all ethernet as far as I know.) which isn't much at all http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=48449 . £35 + P&P.

I had massive problems last time I had LIVE with crap connection etc. Since then I have built a new PC, had a phone line put in my room and am wanting to finish it off with a router for LIVE. Will any router do? I don't want to have my PC when playing LIVE.

Any router with two or more ports and a couple of Cat5 cables should be fine. You can pick them up much, much cheaper.

Mine's a four port speedtouch router I got for £60 with my Eclipse broadband. Works perfectly with Live, with or without the computer on.
