The best thing about Star Wars Episode 1:Phantom Menace was 3 things :
1 -The ships seemed so much cooler and technologically advanced compared to the ships in the future (Episodes 4 -6)
2 -They used robotic soldiers but downgraded to human storm troopers in episodes 4-6
3 -They got a Scotsman- Ewan McGregor, to play the part of Obi Wan, who was originally played by an Englishman - Alec Guinness
Despite this I enjoyed the film and can't wait for the next episodes.

Lucas wrote the basic story ages ago, that rough outline would be considered a "Plot". However the film "Script" would have been used to make the film, and may have even been slightly adjusted as the film was being made.

Didnt George Lucas write the Episode 1 script before the original trilogy was even out?? I always thought he did!!
The merchandise I admit a lot of it is tack but you come to expect that nowadays. Look at Pokemon and how big that was - There is still no escaping poke merchandise!! Companies always jump on the bandwagon whenever the next big thing comes along because they know us mugs will fork out for it thus making a lot of money in the process!!
I would have to agree with you Ant, Episode I was great and keeps getting better the more I watch it. I cant think of anything that even comes close, apart from the original trilogy of course!!

What are you guys talking about, Episode One was a Travesty. As for the Pod Racing Scene, well that was 5 -10 minutes of my life completely wasted it wasnt even excited because we knew they had to win! Besides it was obviously only in the film so that a "StarWars Pod Racer" videogame could be made. Im sure the game was being programmed before that part of the film was even filmed. Its disgusting, eeurrrggghh

The pod racer scenes were excellent and I did enjoy the lightsaber battle at the end!! Like the previous trilogy though there are so many classic scenes its hard to remember them all!!
