Please I need your advice. From the grammatical point of view, is it correct to say "Wisdom is something that we have to learn ourselves" ?

When I wrote this in the composition in the Exam, my teacher said it's wrong and it should be "teach ourselves" but that wouldn't make any sense and doesn't deliver the same meaning, am I right or what ?
