Good Chelsea performance, not great from Arsenal - but enough. I'd have taken 1-1 before the game.
Even though Arsenal have the advantage, I still have a strange feeling Chelsea are going to pull something off even though I'd prefer to see a Arsenal Vs Real Semi-Final.
Gudjohnsen must play at the moment, he's on top form and is starting to play like he did a couple of seasons ago. I mean that finish yesterday was superb. He was off balance, and he didn't even look up, yet managed to get the ball in from a "reasonably" tight angle.
Crespo. Hmm. He's one of those prolific scorers that'll say "pass me the ball along the floor to my right foot, 6 yards out and I'll score 30 a season." His heading ability is top notch, but other than that, there is nothing really that special about him from what I have seen this season.
Forsell must come back. now . He's our top scorer this season, and he's not playing for us. He's got fantastic talent, and has developed a lot since I saw him score two screamers on his debut, at the tender age of 16.
Last night, Chelsea were outstanding, and no-one can fault their effort. But this is purely the reason why we cannot go through to the semi's. We played our hearts out last night, and played to the best of our ability, and no-one can argue that, but put simply, Arsenal didn't. We know thats not their best, and to play like we did last night was incredible.
Terry and Desailly marked Thierry Henry (the best player in the world) out of the game. Lampard and Makelele kept Vieira quiet, and as for Bergkamp, I forgot he was playing in the second half.
As for the sending off, I haven't seen the replay, but it looked from where I was that there was not much contact. However, Desailly had to go for it, otherwise Paddy was clean through and that could have given Arsenal a crucial away goal. The fact that he missed the ball meant that the free-kick had to be given, but I would have done the same. He sacrificed himself for the team, and its a shame he'll have to miss the second leg.
Last night was a great achievement. At times outplayed arsenal, and we held them to just one goal. But there's more to come from them in the second leg.
> Chelsea played well, Arsenal didn't.
Exactly, yet the result still went in their favour, the luck is with Arsenal at the moment and it seems that they will have a few trophies come the end of the season.
> As for Mutu, well my sister squawked that "oh he's cute".
> Pfft, shut up tart. I'm watching the game.
Are you sure that wasn't Mutu squarking? cause he didn't do much else...
;)
Chelsea played well and they got what they deserved. But that is the thing - Chelsea played well, Arsenal didn't.
As for Mutu, well my sister squawked that "oh he's cute". Pfft, shut up tart. I'm watching the game.
Had it been the other way around and there was no booking, you'd be saying it was a wreckless challenge and asking "why the hell wasn't Vieira sent off?"
The tackle would have gotten the ball but just as he was about to tackle, Viera just kicked it miles ahead and dived before he was even touched.
He could have easily just jumped over him seeing as he knew it was coming but he made a meal of it.
I was disappointed because I felt Vieira could have jumped over him and scored - or at least had a shot.
Still, it'll teach the stupid git to knock the ball out of the keeper's hand, won't it? He'd only have had a yellow if he hadn't had that rush of blood.
I can imagine the uproar and headlines of "CHEAT!" there'd be in the press if that had been Vieira or Keane!
He kicked the ball ahead and jumped, there was no contact, he dived.
But, where was Henry?? Where did Vieira go? How did Frank Lampard and The Blues make it look all-so-easy at times?
Chelsea could've got more, like they deserved to. Their defence look quite equally-strong to Arsénal's, aside from Ambrosio perhaps... (then again, it's not like The Gooners looked all happy with Lehmann!)
Had Cudicini been fit, I reckon he's have at least gotten a hand to that Pires header, as good a goal as it was (...I suppose). Instead, they had an Anthony Kiedis look-a-like who only liked he was gonna "give it away" [sorry!] to the French side when they [/I]did[/] look at all as threatening as they have been this season.
Arsénal just weren't the same though...
Perhaps Ranieri's words made some sense to the players and people like Scott Parker were able to 'remove' key-players from the Arsénal line-up?
Or, maybe they were plainly tired, after all?
That'd be nice for the next two weekends... A nice, tired, sluggish Arsénal of whom even our shaken-and-stirred defence cannot crumble under.... We can only dream! :)
Take nothing away from Chelsea though, they were quite superb.
Adrian Mutu? Hernan Crespo? But, what good are they when Gudjohnsen seems to be the one (striker) scoring all their goals right now?
