It's irritating me.
I want to put some data onto a disc, so that I can use it on another computer.

I put a CD-R in, and my disc drives (both of them, each a CD-RW) claim that the disc is completely empty of memory. Like so: http://firestorm.staghosting.com/pic.jpg

Now, I know the disc isn't faulty, as the same happens with 2 different CD-RW's, and, the disc is perfectly fine on that other computer, ie, it detects the the disc has 702mb on it.

So what's going on?
Much help appreciated.

And oh, my drives both work, as I can put games/DVD's and so forth into them, and they work/recognise there's a disc etc. That also reminds me - they both detect that there is a disc.

Thanks.

Muh, I didn't say the disc was faulty, just that it may need formatting for your home CDRW drives to burn on it. A standard CD drive will read them as discs. A CDRW drive will (try) read them as writeable media. If they can't understand the media format (i.e. they are unformatted, or formatted for a different system), they will see the disc as full and unwriteable.

It could be a number of things. Perhaps if you state the brands of your drives and discs, some of the techies on here will have a better idea of what could be causing the problem.

Yeh the skins are cool. My PC's so crap that if I want to play online games well i usually close the skin programs.

For the CD problem I really can't see the problem. With CD-Rs a proper file structure hasn't yet been put onto the CD so the computer has difficulty telling how much space is on the disc hence several contradicting results. I get this as well. Is it burning alright?

Yeah.

I suggest copying your original ones (logonui and, erm. The bootup one, which the filename of I have forgotten) to other locations.

And the visual styles are pisch easy to get rid of/replace, yeah. What I was on about above was for the logon screens and boot up screens.
It's a really cool site. Some good stuff.

StyleXP/ThemeXP rocks.

As Phi11ip said, the disc may need to be formatted to work. XP's integrated burning software has done that to a couple of my CD-RWs but Nero and Alcohol both saw that they were blank discs.

If you like messing about with the way windows looks you might want to try NextSTART, it lets you design your own taskbar and stuff. You can even hide your desktop icons to make it look a bit cooler.

If it's a CD/RW, make sure it's formatted to work in the other drives. Is the drive even CD/RW enabled? They're different from normal CD-Rs.

Oh, and another freaky thing is, is that I use Alcohol 120%, and when I go to a disc drives properties, it recognises a disc, and gives me all the details, eg, 702mb of free space.
I remove the disc, and that all goes.

So I think that rules out the fact that my drives don't work. Probably.
