Great things – hands: very useful. I must confess to being somewhat obsessed; with my hands, with other people's hands, especially with finely manicured female hands. But I digress. This is about hand gestures.
2-fingers: F-off.
2-fingers palm-facing: peace.
Middle finger: up yours.
Thumbs up, thumbs down.
The thumb & forefinger OK sign.
All the miscellaneous waves: the cheeky finger-jiggle; the Royal stiff-hand motion; the super-friendly overt flutter.
Then there's twiddling one's thumbs.
Finger-walking Yellow Pages style.
Finger-wagging.
Pointing in general.
The come hither curled-finger enticement.
The so-so fingers spread indecisive undulation.
The fingertips together ponderous pyramid.
The flat palm talk to the hand cos the face ain't listenin’ dismissal.
The little finger wiggle inadequate manhood insinuation.
Scout's Honour.
The horned devil crossed-forearm pose.
The Native American HOW chieftain salute.
The medieval Halt! who goes there? stance.
Spock's Vulcan greeting.
And shaking one's fist: surely the most comical hand gesture, especially when its genuine application is witnessed at close-quarters by someone incensed.
Out of all the hand gestures I can think of, my favourite has to be the cutthroat motion: a stiff thumb swiped from left-to-right across the front of the neck, usually accompanied by an abrupt oral *click*. I do this all the time whilst staring at strangers on buses... Well actually I don't, but I'd like to.
Hands - great things: very useful. I suppose you could say they are handy.
I'm jotting this down because yesterday I went to the job centre. Change was in the air: I hate my job with a Hilteristic passion, and I wanted to try something new – something more hands-on. The rather attractive woman behind the desk asked what type of job I was looking for. Almost instantly my lips moved and the words just blurted out: ‘A HANDJOB!’ - Needless to say I vacated the premises quicksticks skulking away down a sly alley before the security man could grab my scruff with his big hairy white-knuckled-

That's very true.
And fist shaking is hilarious, though I suspect it's quite rare in modern times - it seems strangely old-fashioned. An angry person is much more likely to wave a middle-finger or two fingers, or adopt the 'wwanker hand shuffle' [one I missed out in the original post]. Does anyone genuinely shake their fist anymore? I think it's dying out.
The best example of fist shaking by the way was in an old Batman episode, one of the first ones with Falseface, where he steals the crown at the beginning. In the second episode of that two parter, at the end, he shakes his fist in a way so brilliantly comical that nothing really compares.
Great topic. :D
Black gloves.
