I'm glad you know the specifications of the N64... but why have you bothered to post this message? Did someone ask for the specs. or something? Anyway, at the end of the day, the N64 doesn't have as many great titles as the Playstation (although titles like Zelda and Perfect Dark are great). The console may have good specs, but the games count. Like Sony's PS2, the N64 has the specs and comes out with some great titles, but these are all too infrequent.

Well it doesn't matter what Rav wrote, no, Rav nobody asked for the specs but then again nobody asked you to post topics nobody asked asked the Special Reserve Guy to print a Red logo but hey i guess it is done on one's own initiative for the sake or interest of others...okay playstation has a wider range of games but the best N64 game would easily capture the want and needs of gamers in a place where even the top playstation games would get blown away, CD quality sound on a cartridge and one of the best most anticipated games ever...Perfect Dark.

PS: Playstation controls just plain suck!

I wasn't having a go at you about posting the specs... just that you went on to say that this meant that the N64 was great. I was just saying that I disagree with that. Sure the N64 has a great set up, but the games count.

It may have Perfect Dark, but then the PSX has great games like this too. Metal Gear Solid is one of the most cinematic games I have played, while Half life is also lots of fun. Also, the PSX has games in catagories the N64 lacks. For example, the N64 has one realistic racer- Ridge Racer- meanwhile the PSX has 4 Ridge Racers, Gran Turismo and countless others.

I do take your point that the N64 has some great games like Mario, PD and Zelda. I even owned an N64 for these titles, and am going to re-buy one for Perfect dark and probably the new Zelda as well. The N64 also has the best multi payer games, and the best controller. The only problem is that the really great titles take so long to come out, and they are very infrequent (Perfect Dark was delayed by God knows how long!). Meanwhile the PSX has a steady stream of games in every genre from Racing to RPGs. The range of games is amazing. If you want an RPG for the N64 the only excellent one at the moment is Zelda (there are some good ones, but they're not "excellent"). Meanwhile the PSX has FF7, FF8 Vagrant Story and many others. This applies in almost every genre, and is why I sold my N64.

Finally I leave you with this. The N64 is great. It has desiners like Miyamoto, and plays host to some brilliant multiplayer and single player games. The PSX on the other hand has far more 3rd party support. It has a constant stream of games, many of which are good quality to compete with other games on the market. This is despite of the N64s superior specs and talented 1st party publishers. This is the reason for the PSX's success over the N64- gamers have already voted with their money!

One year later, AND THEY'RE STILL ARGUING!!!!!

At least with 12 months of hindsight behind us we now know that clearly the PSX won the day...

Whoa!! A whole 93 mhz! I am truely gobsmacked! Oh look - there's my PC, 10x faster, yes...

And all things Sony don't suck. I myself, I guess, am more of a Ninty than anything else. But this doesn't mean I hate Sony, no, far from it. My big TV is Sony, my Hi-fi is Sony, my earphones and speakers are Sony, my VCR is Sony.

Sony are the best elctronic specialists in the world, full stop.

Yeah but consoles are getting better and better still Namostar!!

It will be a while until a console betters my PC, since it is brand new P4 1.5 GHZ

But look at the XBOX that is probably as good in mghz as most peoples P2/3 700mhz computer!!

You forget the PS2 only clocks in at around 300mhz. PCs need stupidly fast processors because they are designed to run multiple types of applications. The PS2 (and only the PS2) is specifcally designed to run one application, the 3D game. The GC and the Xbox aren't really designed like this. The GC is slightly geared towards the 3D game, and the Xbox IS a PC so it's very much a multi-purpose console. The 700mhz is useless because you can get far much more power from a small processor if you just plan a little bit. Microsoft are being stupid with their spec.

The PS2's parts reach what could almost be described as synergie. The console can output more than the sum of its parts because of the amazingly efficient and radical way it's designed. The GC and Xbox can't really do this as they are still adhering (ish) to the IBM standards laid down 20 years ago. This makes them very easy to develop for but you don't get outstanding power. The PS2 is amazingly hard to develop for but you can get outstanding results.
