Recently purchased a Panasonic NVGS70B miniDV camcorder. Panasonic, being the ****s they are, decided in their infinite wisdom that I should pay for any digital video software separately, and included no software at all bar some crap that allows me to capture still from the video stored on my DV tapes. Great.

I'm sure I'm not the only person here with a digital camcorder, so what software do you guys use, what does it do and how much did it cost?

Oh, and is it compatible with winXP?

I'm using Premiere at the moment and I would reccomend it, although if you are loaded, you should probably get a Mac with iMovie, and move on to Final Cut Pro if you feel experienced enough.

Does that software not cost more than my camcorder?

Panasonic have quoted me:

Motion DV Studio v3.0 Digital Video editing software for
Windows 98SE and ME. Recommended retail cost is £69.98

Motion DV Studio v3.0 Digital Video editing software for
Windows 98SE and ME. Includes PCI Firewire card and Firewire cable.
Recommended retail cost is £178.54

Motion DV Studio v3.0 Digital Video editing software for
Windows 98SE and ME. Includes CardBus Firewire card and DV cable.
Recommended retail cost is £199.98

Motion DV Studio 4.7
(VW-DTM41E - Motion DV Studio Digital Video editing software for Windows
98SE, ME, 2000 and XP. Includes PCI Firewire card and Firewire cable.
Recommended retail cost is £178.54

That's their choice list, and being an XP user, that leaves me with the £180 option. To be honest, if Panasonic hold back the software to use the product, they'll likely hold back some functionality in the software too, leaving me open to have to pay something else. I'd rather look for non-Panasonic software, but thankyou very much for your help.

Well what a coincidence. I recently bought a Panasonic NVDS60 miniDV camcorder, and too was a bit disappointed that you needed extra software to take stills. What you need is the Panasonic DV Studio kit, it's around £45 but you could get it on ebay for half that.
