I went to see Torque last weekend in a moment of weakness and was made to feel most happy for going due simply to the trailers at the start. First they had Shaun Of The Dead, the new Dawn Of The Dead spoof which in fairness looks good in it's own right but straight after that they showed the Dawn Of The Dead trailer. Oh my god. It looks BRILLIANT. I personally will be trying to sneak into this (it's an 18 for all you who don't know) because frankly it looks the biz. I have not seen a horror remake that looked this good in a while and I think this will definitely live up to expectations. Dawn Of The Dead is a classic I know but it seems to me that they have revived it not butchered it and I can't wait to give it a watch.

Here is the link to the trailer:

Have a look, the trailer is a 15 certificate...I think...was Torque a 15? Ah well it's whatever certificate Torque is. Either way it looks pretty scary on it's own so the film should be great.

The only thing I am upset about is that instead of the groaning, slowly clambering zombies who drag their feet along the ground as they try to feast on the living is that they have been changed into fast moving undead monsters. The line between Rage Victims in 28 Days Later and Zombies is made ever thinner by this representation of them. Some things should be updated, others shouldn't.

I thikn CGI works with creatures like snakes and bugs (The bugs in The Mummy were quite good as was the lizard in The Relic) however when they try to do warm blooded creatures using CGI we can instantly tell that they are fake, however the more alien nature of snakes and bugs to our species makes CGI bugs and snakes more believeable.

I thought the zombies in resident evil looked good enough but I admit the licker monster looke SHOCKINGLY bad. *shudders* Still, noone would dare make that mistake again, would they?

I remember the CGI effects used on the zombies in Resident Evil, Terrible, they looked amateurish and together with that crappy CGI licker monster the effects killed off the atmosphere that had built up earlier in the movie. I hate CGI in horror films; it just doesn't fit and destroys what scares there may have been in the film.

Out of interest, what does everyone have against CGI zombies? I mean one minute you're all praising it as the best thing since sliced bread in films like The Matrix Reloaded with all the smiths but then when they make zombies with half their faces ripped off you all hate it. I mean I supposed with these CGI zombies they can make them look TOO dead so that you know that it is just a graphic you're looking at. Still, that's the only flaw I can see. It can be TOO good and then you know it's fake and not scary. Apart from that, I see nothing wrong.

Although I agree zombies which run, jump and so on is crap. Everything else though looks pretty scary and pretty good.

A good and fairly modern film which pays homage to various horror movies is Idle Hands.

Looks toss, the beginning of the trailer where that kid, who I presume is a zombie, jumps to floor after killing her farther looked stupid, I might have laughed if the film wasn't taking itself serious.

I think I'll stick with Shaun of the Dead, which is out next month http://uip.co.uk/romzom/ It doesn't look like it takes itself seriously and actually pay homage to past zombie films, and coming from the people who made Spaced it should be pretty funny too. Looks ten times better than this overblown remake of Dawn of the Dead anyway.

CGI zombies?

Oh FFS!

I won't be surprised if this becomes a 12a rated film at the moment.

I doubt it'll be that good. The original was and still is an absolute classic.

I expect them to shy away from the gory scenes of the original, I doubt you'll see a biker getting his entrials torn out while he's still alive for instance.

I expect this to be more like Resident Evil - an action film based in an established horror setting/licence.

Dawn of the Dead is one of my favourite films, after watching the trailer for the remake I can see that it bares very little resemblance to the superb original.

Zombies that run and jump? a load of teenagers and a moody looking Ving Rhames? CGI Zombies?

Muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh!

It's sad that crap like this can get a budget, where as Romero is still struggling to find a budget to put together the forth film. I would have had more hope for it if they'd have gone down the same route they did with the Night remake and got Tom Savini on board to direct it. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the film will be entertaining in a "Woah this is crap, but still quite fun" kinda way, but the fact that it has the Dawn name is quite simply embarassing for everyone involved.
