Heh, Well from the ROM/Emulator sites i have seen; they constantly force feed your computer porn. I have received a virus for going on an emulator site before 'Win32.hllp.exe' or something like that.

AVG is a good Virus Checker/Scanner. Have you tried PC-Cillin - That seems to do a good job.

Also i would check what processes you have running in the background, even though you have got rid of it.

Bah, Laugh at me if you must.

*Hides in shame*

And BTW call me James not JamesD.

:)

It seems to be OK now anyway :) I've run AVG again and I'm clean.

Yep that could be a reason. It's best to check your entire computer at least once a week for virii - just schedule it and leave it on during the night. It's also a good idea to check every file you download, after updating the signatures for the day.

By the way, that joke wasn't aimed at JamesD specifically.

Could be. I stopped using AVG after it leaked a virus into my machine (although it did work much better than Norton).

Zonealarm should have blocked the pop-ups and warned of anything trying to access your computer. Maybe you have the security settings too low?

Best advise would be to go to the Symantec website (i forget the addy - www.symantec.com? try that) and search for the virus in question. They should have a removal tool for ya.

I'm no expert on these things...but I'm wondering if AVG didn't pick it up straight away because it didn't recognise the signiture maybe? It only rang alarm bells straight after I had updated AVG.

LOL...I don't use P2P on this comp cause it is far too slow being only on Dial Up...the only place i'm thinking I may have got it is from a few ROM sites whilst tracking down some Megadrive ROMS...a couple of places did bombard me with pop-up's...some trying to get me to reset my homepage...but neither AVG of ZL picked anything up at the time.

Lol at JamesD.

But no, either AVG or ZA should have stopped it from infecting you so the only way you could have got it would be through a download. Do you use P2P?

Yeah, porn sites can be tricky with the ol' "install this first" issue.
