Can someone answer the following questions:

A guy buys something off of me over the net and wants to pay by PayPal, when he puts the money in my PayPal account will it charge me?

How does the PayPal system work, eg.How do you get the money into your account?

Is it wise for me to register with Paypal?

Does it cost to register with PayPal?

Thanks you if you answered them.

In the UK PayPal doesn't currently do bank tranfers, but you can add a Switch card which is basically doing the same job. There will be a limit to start with on how much money you can send through your account, but on registering the card to will be asked to verify the card. There is a link button next to the card that you register on your account page (click on profile on the top tabs and click Credit Cards in the middle column) This involves PayPal charging your Switch card two amounts of less than £1.00 (e.g. one of 62p and one of 12p) which will show up on your bank statement. When these amounts appear you will have to put in the amounts you were charged into the approriate part in your PayPal account (don't worry...paypal will send you an email with a direct link to this bit) and that will verify the card and remove the limit. You will be refunded this amount afterwards.

You can send money without having any money in your paypal account, it will charge your Switch/Credit Card, it will go through instantly. This debit typically takes around 5-7 days to show up on your bank statement.

Could I clarify a point?

I recently signed up for a PayPal account.
I try to add funds into the account (which currently has £0.00 in it), but it says "PayPal does not currently offer the ability to add funds from your bank account. You may, however, use other funding sources to make a PayPal payment, including credit cards and your PayPal account balance."

So does this mean that instead of paying with money in the PayPal account, I can use the bank details I signed up with to pay instead even though there is nothing in the PayPal account? The money would then be deducted from my bank account/credit card and not from the PayPal account?

Further to Bell, they do charge you to register, but they credit your account with the pound or two. The reason for it is to check that your card is all set up properly or something like that.

Actually if you register now they give you $5 I think.

Right, Paypal take their fee (charge) out of the money people send you. Each payment a person sends is charged 3.4% + 20p of the total.

Say I sent you £10

Paypal take their fee instantly, 54p (3.4% of £10 is 34p, then you add the 20p) and you would get £9.46 into your account.

When you sign up for Paypal you give them your bank details. Once you have £10 or more in your account you can transfer the money to your account via Paypal. Paypal charges 20p to do this if the amount you withdraw is under £50, over £50 it is free.

When you use Paypal to pay for things you can use the money people have paid you, or you register your credit/debit card with Paypal to use that instead. When you select Paypal to pay for an item on eBay it asks you to put in your Paypal email address and your unique password, you then confirm the amount, click pay, and it's done.

Depends - offer Paypal as a payment method and you will probably get a high price for auction items. Paypal is also great for paying for items from overseas as you're covered against fraud, and the person you buy from never sees any of your card details and cannot in any way.

I think it costs $1 or something - they charge the credit/debit card you use to register with (this way they verify it is your card and that you have entered a real address) and when the charge is on the statement it has a code with it, which you enter to verify your account. When you register it clearly tells you

It costs about 3% of the total amount to accept a payment.

Of course you can pass this charge onto the buyer if you feel like it.

yes, you are charged for each transaction. I don't know how much - it's a small percentage of the amount

it's just an online account - you log on to the site and can access your funds. You can transfer payments to paypal from your bank account, and then make payments to third parties. the process is reversed when people pay you.

> Is it wise for me to register with Paypal?

it's the most convenient and speedy method of payment for e-bay, IMO.

> Does it cost to register with PayPal?

no, but I think you have to deposit some money into the paypal account to open it.
