Chelsea confirm Robben signing
Tuesday, Mar 02, 2004
Chelsea have won the race to sign top Dutch star Arjen Robben.
The PSV Eindhoven player will arrive at Stamford Bridge this summer in transfer deal worth £12m, following today's agreement between the clubs.
The 20 year old has played both as a left-winger and as a second striker for PSV and Holland.
His impressive scoring record speaks for itself. He has won four caps and scored two goals since his debut for the national team in April last year.
In 21 appearances this season for PSV, he has found the net seven times, and in his first full season in 2002/03 following his move from FC Groningen his goal tally was 12.
Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon said: "This is a great signing for Chelsea. Arjen is a top quality player who will become a major asset for our club in the years ahead. For his age, he shows great maturity and mental strength to go with his natural footballing skills.
"It's an excellent example of how Chelsea is appealing to the new wave of European talent and our commitment to bring the best young players to Stamford Bridge as well cultivate the best, young English talent."
Head coach Claudio Ranieri added: "For me, Arjen Robben will be a fantastic addition to our squad. He is quick, strong, scores goals, makes goals. He can do everything. His style is perfect for the Premier League and I am very happy that he wanted to come to us."
We could've still benefited with him as a player, seeing as how Ryan Giggs is likely to have his annual hamstring injury lay-off in this next-year, and that we will struggle to replace him.
Speaking of which, HAS Giggsy actually knackered his hamstring this season or not??? :o
But i know 1 Chelsea supporter
> Never heard from you last season, did you stroll in the same time as

No, I've been a chelsea fan all my life.
Went to the FA Cup Final defeat against Man Utd when we lost 4-0 in 1994. Score.
So dont you "look here its an abrahamovic follower" me.

Possibly, but he is apparently more of a Bergkamp than a Wright.
Maybe we should move for Wrighty's son, Wright-Phillips. He's an okay player, but with our team and Wenger's coaching, who knows? :-)

In plain English:
"It just goes to show that up-and-coming talent in football - whether English or foreign - has absolutely no loyalty to any club, and will be attracted to whoever can pay them the most money, regardless of trophy-winning ability."
> maybe a Forward in the Ian Wright
I think David Bentley is a great young player and could possibly play in that role.
It's not to seduce the world by playing "The Beautiful Game" (™ & © Arsenal FC).
It is, quite simply, to buy every player in the world rated "half-decent" and above.
Not so that they can actually *play* for Chelsea, obviously. (Not unless they pay FIFA to change the rules so that Chelsea can field more than 11 players, anyway...)
No.
The plan is simple.
If every half-decent (and above) player is signed to Chelsea, they can't play for anyone else against them!
But Arsenal will still beat them 2-1! :-D
