Celta Vigo 2-3 Arsenal

What a great match this has been. Edu with two and then Pires with the third. Celta have also got an Edu on the scoresheet, with Jose Ignacio getting their other.

Bayern 1-0 Real Madrid

Currently, Roy Makaay's goal seperates.

And AC Milan are being held 0-0 in Prague.

Earlier on, Lokomotiv Moscow beat Monaco 2-1.

I agree in as much as I doubt very much that he set out to stamp on the keeper when he made the run (though with Keane, who knows?!), but however much contact was made, it's plain for all to see that he DID mean to do it.

His normal stride would easily have carried him over the keeper with no contact, had he wished to do so. But he deliberately takes a smaller step at that point to make contact with the keeper.

As you and others were so keen to point out with the RvN/Vieira incident, it is not what ACTUALLY happens, but the INTENT. If Vieira got a ban for the now-famous 'air kick', then Keane surely deserves at least the same.

Though I stand by my initial opinion that it should only be one game, not three.

Heh.

Last season, AEK Athens were the only team unbeaten in the Champions League. They drew 6 and went out.

We deserved to lose. If you're gonna defend like that, you deserve to lose the game. We made a similar mistake to what Arsénal did; giving Benny McCarthy as much space, in the air, as he felt like. And, because of it, we conceeded goals which turned the result around.

However, I don't see how Roy Keane's "incident" deserved a red card. That was shocking. Barely was there any contact made, yet, Vitor Baia made a bit of a meal out of it. There was a little intent from Keano, but only enough to warrant a yellow. It was one of those things down to frustration and not quite being quick-enough - he didn't set out to stamp on the 'keeper, and the effect's only gonna be made worse with studded boots. That sounds like more of an Ashley "A. Hole" Cole thing...

...And Arsénal fans think everyone's out to get THEM....
Come on! They're out to get ALL big-teams; can't you see??

I think Real Madrid are going to win it this season. Before the game against Bayern the Eurosportnews commentator (or the commmentators for the game, I can't remember who) said that whoever wins this tie always goes to lift the cup. He then gave examples in 2000 when Real won it they beat Bayern, in 2001 Bayern beat Real, in 2002 Real beat Bayern etc. From the looks of it Real Madrid have one leg in the quarter finals. I believe this is so because they have an away goal which means a goalless draw at the Bernebeu will mean they go through. Another factor is that they are very, I mean EXTREMELY!!! hard to beat at home. Look at their home record in la liga, they are undefeated with only one draw the rest are victories. Not only are they undefeated in la liga at home but also in every competition this season this includes the Copa del Rey and the Champions League. Also their are the only team still unbeaten in the Champions League.

I didn't catch Ferguson's comments after the match, but Sky would have (probably) interviewed him before ManUtd.com - so maybe the quote is from that?

Check out the ManYoo "Your Say" section at TeamTalk.com - many fans seem to think Ferguson's a bigger idiot for defending Keane than Kean was for doing it!

That's not defending Keane, that's stating a fact.

Taken from Manutd.com

"I'm not sure whether he could have got out of the road. It's not like Roy. It's maybe a bit accidental - their goalkeeper made a meal of it. You can see why the linesman has flagged."

I wouldn't take notice of many other media source as they tend to exaggerate or misinterpret things - Just like Football365.com saying Arsenal dominated the game at Stamford Bridge.

ManUtd.com gets the exclusive interview and is a lot more reliable.

Anyway, Keane isn't the type to try and injury someone on the sly, he'll just do it blatently infront of the referee - so no it's not like him at all! :)

I don't believe what I've just read!

Alex Ferguson on Keane's stamp:

"There was no malice in the incident, it is not Roy's style to do anything like that."

I'm sure I don't need to say any more.

That's for a 'standard' sending off. It can be increased to 3 games for violent conduct. Just depends how they interpret the stamp.

There's obviously no denying Keane stamped on the keeper - and in my view it was intentional. But... and trust me, I don't defend Keane easily... it didn't appear to be anywhere near as forceful as the keeper made out.

Ugh... I feel dirty!

Scholes & Kleberson are too similar to play in the centre of midfield, both very much atttacking players who like to go forward at all oppotunities.

If we do that then we'll have a big gaping hole in the middle of our midfield. P.Neville must play in central midfield as a defensive/hard tackling midfielder allowing someone like Scholes to go forward and join attacks.
