I'm coming to a close on my 'Tabloids: A prostitution of art' essay and I would just like to get a few opinion on a few bits of it. You (students) are my target audience, so if you like it I have done good!

"There are endless Government campaigns telling us that smoking rots our lungs and gives us diseases. Well in my opinion tabloids should carry health warnings, they rot the readers mind and spread the disease of ignorance on a national level. They turn everyday people into racist bigots who hate asylum seekers just because stupid tabloid journalists have the audacity to cover only one side of the story and portray immigrant as blood-sucking leeches that are sucking the life and soul out of the country and thriving off taxpayer’s money. "

"Surely if you study to university level you have high hopes for yourself, and are planning a successful career. A proven writer selling their talent to a tabloid is, in my opinion, the same as a potential supermodel giving up their hopes of walking the catwalks in Rome, Paris or Vienna and instead working as a street corner hussy in the Red Light District of Amsterdam. "

"Whilst a reputable newspaper, such as The Times, may report on the new University Top-up fees, the chances are that any given tabloid will have a 16-page spread on which Hollywood women are victims of cellulite, which prestigious high street retailer David Beckham buys his socks from, or how Vanessa Feltz was held captive in her own home, by an angry-looking house spider. "

Views please, chief's and chiefettes.

Thanks

Yes, but it is aimed at students so I can get away with making fun of stupid people because students have shown a willingness to expand their intellect.

I probably need to tone the assylum seekers bit down and get some facts too.

I've only had a skim through it, I'll look better as soon as I've finished my references list for this essay I'm doing. I gathered you could mean some of what you say to be humourous but bear in mind that peoples sense of humour can be different.

Well it is a first draft

We are likely to do three drafts and a comentary too so I can keep it as it is (or thereabouts, I have changed a few things since I put it online) and my second draft can be more toned down, and the third will be just polished up.

Besides being extreme, how does it read?

Do you 'get' the humourous intent?

Tad extreme isn't it? I think the first thing I'd say is you need to chill out the argument a bit, You cannot simply call tabloid readers "the rabid illiterate hoards", because it is offensive and generalised far too much, nor is it true - how can illiterate people understand the writing? There's a time and place for over statement but school/university work is not really that time or place unless you have firm evidence to back it up.

Okay, got it, you can delete it now.

I'll have a look a bit later and post tonight.

Bear in mind anything I say is just my opinion on it okay?

I don't have front page any more so paragraphs were too much of a challenge for me. You're probably best off pasting it into word of something to make it easier to read.

Yes but it doesn't seem to be working.

I will host it for a bit, but delete it after a while because moderators check the web to see I havent plagiarised my work and I dont want any confusion.

Ah, I don't have messenger. You have any webspace you can put it on? Not publish it, just host the file.
