Right, with the amount of tech-heads in this forum I know one of you will be able to solve my dilema.

- I cannot perform actions in my hotmail inbox, which I beleive is caused by a java error

- I cannot download java plugin because my computer cannot find the signature for the java programme, or any other programmes (ie Macromedia shockwave) when I try to download them, even if I click "ok" to download them.

I have fiddled with security settings and everything but, in all honesty, I haven't got a bloody clue what is going on. I'm not too great with computers, or at least the technical stuff, and I really need a hand before stress consumes me.

Thanks in advance.

Google will know. Alternatively you could re-read this thread, as the answer is staring you in the face.

Firefox has:

Tabbed browsing (you'll wonder how you lived without it)

Built in, fully customisable pop-up blocking

Download manager.

A search bar next to the address bar that allows you to search google, amazon, ebay, dictionary.com etc etc without opening up an intrusive window or having to actually go through the homepage. The search box is the single best feature in my opinion and I find it incredibly frustrating surfing the net without it.

About a million extensions, including mouse gestures, a calendar, minesweeper, a thing that lets you open plain text as URLs (very useful for this site), user interface add-ons etc etc.

Lots of nice looking themes.

Stability.

And much, much more.

At the moment it isn't the browser component of the mozilla suite (that feels clunky by comparison and has a much more cluttered user interface) but is part of the mozilla project. The plan is to integrate it into the suite at some point in the future (I guess when it reaches 1.0 and maybe Moz reaches 2.0) but for now if you want Firefox you have to download Firefox.

Installing Opera will also install a new Java thingy, and you can always uninstall Opera at a later date because unlike IE it does not cling, face hugger style, to your windows installation.

Honest to god, your best bet would be to go to www.opera.com or www.mozilla.com and downloading a new browser. Personally I prefer the former, but lots of people vouch for the latter, specifically Firefox, which is the browsing component of the Mozilla suite (you can download that seperately, there's a link on the front page).

I checked out the list of things and couldnt find anything unchecked that should be.

I might try repairing internet explorer again, but I dont know how useful it will be.

Go to add/remove programs and select IE from the list (I think it is listed as Internet Explorer 6, but don't hold me to that). Click the add/remove button and then a box will come up saying Repair and Uninstall. Click repair and see if that works. If it doesn't I would Uninstall and reinstall. The first why worked when my IE buggered up and then it took explorer.exe down with it, so every folder window I opened had nothing in it as explorer.exe was not displaying the contence (that was a fun evening).

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
