I have picked up a few weeks contract work and I inted to pick up a new motherboard and CPU afterwards. I currently have an Athlon 2600 XP + with KT400 motherboard. I am looking to switch over to Intel. What is the best motherboard and CPU at the moment, money shouldn't be an object. I am looking for a setup that will overclock easily enough.

I would go for an 3.4 GHz P4 Northwood CPU, with an Asus P4C800-E Deluxe "Canterwood" Motherboard. That would set you back about £420 from overclockers uk. I would also get a Zalman cooler to boot if you want a silent system/to overclock (Zalman CNPS7000A-Cu Ultra-Quiet CPU Cooler for £40 odd).

get an Athlon 64 setup, good performance leap, get the MSI Neo board + 3200 from komplett, board is £76 cpu is £204, if they don't have the cpu get it from overclockers, this will do your setup justice, especially with that 9800 XT card.
Nothing is significantly quicker than an Athlon 2600. You will get a vastly bigger performance boost by building a RAID array or similar.
If you want to overclock you'd be a lot better off with an Athlon setup. Just a note.
