Starting life back in 1994/1995 (I can't remember which), the PlayStation was up against the Sega Saturn and totally destroyed it in terms of sales, and ultimately popularity. The PlayStation, as gimmicky as it may sound, was to become one of the most recognised brands, logos and family entertainment device ever created. It cost a fortune to start with, at around £300 not many people could afford to pay such an amount, but it soon came down and reached a huge user base of gamers. It only costs £80 now!
There must be around 6million PSX owners in the country, and around 80 or 90 million worldwide! So that’s around 10% of the UK population! I have a PlayStation; I still play it often, although I seem to be playing Crazy Taxi on the Dreamcast quite a lot now! But the PSX has evolved throughout the years. It's still got a lot of life left in it, and the games are still selling well, despite the awful piracy problems! I've around 13 games for the system, but there are so many to choose from - even your grandparents wouldn't mind sitting in front of the TV testing their knowledge at the game Who Wants to Be a Millionaire!
I am a great fan of the Final Fantasy games, and Final Fantasy IX is just superb. There are so many different genres, so you can find anything that you want! Like racing games? Try out the supreme racing simulators of Gran Turismo 1 & 2, or maybe the excellent Colin McRae rally 1 & 2 might be your thing! In my view, the Roll Cage games are some of the best in the genre, but if I had to recommend just one racing game, go for Gran Turismo 2. It'll last you ages and is available for under £15! Bargain!
The PSX or PSone as the new version is now called, is home to the most popular football games, like Fifa, ISS and many more like Actua Soccer, all the EA renditions of Fifa and the pretty good Michael Owen's World League Soccer! The graphics do look a bit dated in comparison to the likes of Fifa 2001 on the PlayStation 2, as will all the games, and the Dreamcast makes the PSX games look just as old. But for it's time, the PSX was the market leader, and it probably still will be for a good while yet! ISS Pro Evolution 2 is definitely the best footie game on the format - you won't be disappointed, so get this if you want the latest and greatest!
There are so many kinds of games, like basketball sims, golf games, cricket (Brian Lara Cricket is a great game!), and rugby games, even the brilliant snooker games of Jimmy White's Cue ball are a great laugh! I like the Track and Field games - superb athletic titles like this make the control pads really show their worth. Maybe you want something that will last a bit longer than the average sports game, although these last you for at least a year until the next version is released! Get into Tomb Raider! Maybe play Soul Reaver, as these first person adventure games are really quite fun to play!
Tekken made its name with the PSX. There've been 3 Tekken titles on the format, and all 3 have delivered some of the greatest fighting action the world has ever seen, although Namco also had success with the amazing Soul Blade - another great fighting game! Anyway, if you've just bought yourself a PlayStation don't consider yourself to be too late - you've actually got in at the right time - all the games are so cheap!
There are also an amazing amount of peripherals available, with many steering wheels, mice, light guns, control pads and so on, but the Sony Official PlayStation dual shock pad is the best of the bunch - great value and great durability!
The world of PlayStation hasn't ended yet just because the PS2 has arrived, oh no. The PS will be around for a very long time, and is probably the most inexpensive way to get into the world of video gaming. Just £200 will get you a PSX and at least 10 games!
Excellent console, that nearly everyone has played on - a must have really!

You want new games?? I'll give you new games. There are loads of them. But I can't be bothered to write them all unless I'm replying to a sensible message.
And yes, TimeSplitters is one of those new games.
