What a name for a topic, but this name was choosen for a very good reason, it was choosen to express the current form of the games industry.
Everyone knows Mr Potato was a toy were the user could remove parts of his body, the result was a mess if the user decided to put the left eye in the right foot whole etc...

This is what the games world is now about, let me explain why:

Without us gamers the gamesworld would be nothing, we are the biggest factor for every games company, they can't deny it and that principal will never change, the only part of the Mr Potato that could never change was the body of the toy, that is why us gamers are the body of Mr Potato. The Unchangable Part.

Moving around the toy we have the legs, these are definetely the main hardware companies of the gaming world, they help the body move without the legs the games industry would be nothing, although there are only two legs on a Mr Potato toy these two legs represent at the moment 3 main companies, Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft. The Moving Part

(At the moment we have the body and legs, so what does the toy need for the games industry to take shape. It needs the eyes, ears nose and mouth, the arms and the head.).

I see the eyes of Mr Potato as the 3rd Parties, the creators of the games that create the beautiful gaming world, the games help us to 'see' how the industry is moving along, we have the improved graphics which we always compare with the older games, without the eyes we can't make out what to expect from all the companies, the eyes are the 3rd most important thing. The Seeing Part

Then we ears nose and mouth this is the promotion of the game, the reviews a magazine gives it, the hype around a game, the expectation of a game, the press, the general noise that the game makes in the world is caused by us listening to others, and responding with an answer of are own. They nose comes into it when the bad things happen, bad hype is when people smell a rat, a delay in a release is an example. This three features help the games industry get along. The Telling Parts.

Where do we buy games, normally at the cheapest place, where there is an offer or special discount. These places are the arms of the toy, they reach out to the us and sell us the games of the legs and facial features, without these arms, there would be no balance in the industry. The legs and eyes need these arms to continue. These arms are the Selling Part.

The last part of the toy (which is used on the later releases of the potato head) is probably the most important to a human but the least important to the toy, attached to the head we have the eyes, ears, nose and mouth, and all of these parts are surrounded in war which is represented by the head, the head is a bad place where a review (mouth) can change what the company (eyes) does with the games, this unnessesary part of the toy takes up a lot of room and is not needed. This part is the War Part.

There are many hidden cross overs between this toy and the games industry, I am not going to name them all just read the passages carefully and think about each part.

Most people see the games industry and gamesworld as a massive thing, where nothing can be changed, I see it merely as a childs toy, where everypart can be move broken and even lost, moved and replaced of even new parts can be added (a hat).

An example is Sega which was a large part of a leg and now is an eye.

Have fun thinking.

Don't get me wrong, I thought the analogy was quite good, if a little starchy. Once you'd peeled away the fabric of the article and chipped away at the finer points, and cut to the fat of the main gist of it, it came out ok.

It's not the first time a potato has been linked to Nintendo, and it won't be the last.

OK, if I got this straight:

Sega was a Leg but is now an Eye
The two Legs represent the 3 manufacturers
The two Eyes represent the 3rd parties
The War Part, my Mr Potato Head doesn't have a War Part...
and where does Bill Gates fit in?

So Sega was a Leg, but is now an Eye because it is a 3rd party...

I see...

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.

Very pleased with the help given by your staff. They explained technical details in an easy way and were patient when providing information to a non expert like me.
