I currently have an ATi Radeon 9500pro and looking to upgrade to something with a bit more "oompf". Not interested in the 9800XT or FX5950(?) as these are prohibatively expensive.

Any suggestions? Was looking at the 9800pro or 5700 Ultra?

if u can wait a bit (hopefully not that long) you could wait until half-life 2 or doom 3 come out cause that's when graphics card companies are gonna release new chipsets and cards with better deals and stuff.

A better CPU then me then and 400mhz RAM. 4,000 more points is about right. I did run my CPU at 200mhz FSB so the RAM was at 400mhz and I got 16,700.

What CPU and RAM do you have? As when I got my card in the summer I ran 3D Mark 2001 on a XP2800, 1Gb DDR333 and a 128mb 9800 Pro and get around 15,700. 3D Mark 2003 gives around 5,500. This was over 6 months ago so I dont know if these new drivers work any better. Is every thing of yours stock?

For 3DMark03 I scored 6152. I checked to see how my CPU would handle games on its own and it ranged anywhere from 1-300 FPS. My graphics card on the other hand nailed the test with a range of 30-450 FPS. Let me know how you fair.

I'm not going to argue this.

Alan how much is your 9500 going for?

I'm happy enough with my Sapphire one. The performance differences are going to be small, just a percentage point or two either way between cards.

The only reason I'm suggesting waiting now is because this is a big jump in architecture and it is happening soon. If it was six months away I would agree, just get the biggest fastest loudest available ATI card now and to hell with later. But that would be just stupid at the moment.
