I know I'll make a mistake here somewhere. And get slated.

First of all;

'There, their, they're' etc.

There = Mike is over THERE. - Place/positions etc

Their = Mike's family, THEIR cat died - Possession/Actions relative to a person/group.

They're = Haha, THEY'RE going to diiiiieee! - 'They Are'.

'We're, where, were'

We're = OH NO! WE'RE going to diiiieeee! - 'We are'

Where = WHERE is Mike? - Place/postions etc again.

Were = They WERE going to diiiieeeee! - 'Were' as in action of the person. Past tense.

Of course, the definitions are terrible. But you think some people could read this and use them correctly?

That's definitely the sort of discussion you'd have after a smoke, leading on to the inevitable :

How can the T-1000 become completely flat - where does the computer chip go?

Why is 'dyslexic' so hard to spell?

And while we're at it: why has 'monosyllabic' got five syllables? Why is 'abbreviation' such a long word? Why has 'lisp' got an 'S' in it? How come there isn't another word for 'synonym'?
