I hope you're not serious!? Someone wearing a headscarf is a million miles away from that guy that stands in London with the microphone and loadspeaker, ranting on about "The light" (no, not our Light), and "He is the one true God". If you really think you've made a valid contribution to this thread, then you just lost any credibilty as a "non-tard" that you had.

I've got very little time for organised religion but I'm a committed libertarian and so I find this to be one of the most repellent pieces of legislation that a supposedly 'civilised' nation has ever come up with. It stinks of totalitarianism to me: forcing people to give up a part of their identity to fit some greater social ideal, and destroying their freedom in the process. I don't see a huge difference between making a Jewish man wear a yellow star and banning him from wearing a skull cap - both imply that his religion is something shameful, offensive and a danger to society.

I think that confining religion to homes and churches is a pretty terrible idea too: who does wearing a head scarf or crucifix harm? No one. So why stop them, other than pure vindictiveness? And where would we draw the line if appropriate clothing becomes a matter for government? Why not stop punks from having mohicans, or nu-metal fans using black eye-liner, or student radicals wearing Che Guevera t-shirts? All those people are members of social groups who use their clothes and bodies to express their identity, and who have ideas and values that deviate from those of 'normal' society. I don't understand why we would single out religion for this kind of treatment.

Very happy about it, I can't wait until it happens over here, and people are restricted to practising religion only in their own homes, or in designated buildings such as Churches, Mosques etc.

Utterly against it, but I wonder why people feel the need to cling to religious symbols in the first place. LePen's influence manifesting itself, I presume.

To some religions this is unfair, for example muslims but you have to remember that after the French Revolution, Religion was Abolished in France and a shrine to Reason and Science erected in Notre Dame, its been like this ever since. While the french people are free to choose what religion they would like to follow, in affairs of state or anything to do with the country as a whole or its government etc, there is no religion or religious aspects or implications thought about. As the schools are state run it applies here too.

I'm Divided over the issue personally.
