You was ment to mention a rucksack (back pack) but he was doing a parachute jump and his chute failed to open!
I got millions of these in a game thing!
After the recent snow, the police reported that a man had been found dead in the middle of a field. There were no tracks around him leading to or from the body, and no evidence that the man had moved. An Autopsy later showed that the man did NOT die from the weather, and had died after the snow had stopped falling.
How did he die?

it was locked from the outside with a thing called a key (modern technology eh!!)

where in the riddle does it say the investigators care about the fish body
> -Why would the investigaters be puzzled about where the water came from?
If u walked into a room with no taps or water sources you'd be a bit puzzled..wouldn't you?

There are a few more holes in the riddle such as,
-how did the fish bowl smash?
-how did a fish lock the door?
-How did the table get knocked over?
-Where is the person who looks after the fish?
-Why would investigaters care about the corpse of a fish?
-Why would the investigaters be puzzled about where the water came from?
> i dont know
so you'd find it perfectly normal if you came downstairs one day to find your beloved pet goldfish "Percy" lying dead in a pool of water, his bowl ruthlessly smashed all over the floor, would you? :D
