I think i should be a bit worried. I used to check the news section of the Official Dreamcast Mam site everyday to find, normally, at least 3 or 4 new stories about new games, rumours etc.

Since the announcement by Sega to cease production of the DC hardware, in its current form anyway, there only seems to be 1 piece of news per week. This worries me slightly as there are no reports of any new games appearing on the platform. Admittedly I have got enough good games to last me until the 'Cube or the X come out, but thats not the point.

I would have thought that a consoles lifetime should be around 5 years or more. I've been trying to stand up for Sega on these forums, but when the official magazine stops talking about new games for the system, well, it worries slightly to say the least.

Still, it does seem slightly bizarre though....

True, but surely it would also be beneficial to complete the game and release it. It would be cheaper than developing a whole new title, and I'm sure Soul Reaver 2 would sell on DC.

Still, ours is not to reason why - as they say!

Maybe they can use the engine they developed plus a few of the characterisations in another game? It's not that hard to port some of that stuff over to another format methinks.

Quite a few hundred thousand, I'd imagine - if not millions.

It makes no sense to me to can a game that's nearly complete. You'd think they'd finish it and try to get back at least some of the investment.

I wonder how many dollars went down the drain when they canned it?

At least one third-party developer has canned a DC game though. Eidos/Core have apparently canned a nearly-complete DC version of Soul Reaver 2; hopefully not many others will follow suit, but that's the risk Sega took when they announced the cancellation of DC hardware.

I wouldn't worry your curly little wig about it.

To be honest. With E3 being so close, most of the big names will want to reveal all there and then. If Sega were to announce Shenmue 3 to be the last game on the Dreamcast now, it would leave Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft open to fill all the hype. Sega will want to do as much as possible to get the spotlight on them, and the only possible way they can do that is at E3. Nintendo and Microsoft will have to fulfil a lot of hype, Sony not so much and Sega, because of their situation will not be expected to make so much of a show, and to be honest without the announcements of new released they cant!

All will be revealed at E3 as it is every year!

The last ODC mag I got (Jan)?, stated that there were currently over 100 games in production that would roll out to retail over the next few months.

Most gamers usually amass between 15-50 decent games for their consoles over the period of some years, so although the DC is stopping production, and the games will cease to be developed by the end of the summer this year, there should still be plenty out there to give your DC a good 5 years more worth of gaming.

Personally, I picked up a DC a few weeks back and no have 6 decent games, which is going to keep me busy for ages. And there are possibly 100 or so titles out there already on the market that I want to get my mitts on, so for me my DC is a great investment, as it's going to give me gaming delights for the next few years, and then my kids can have it.
