In case anyoen doesn't know, there's a new virus out, called MyDoom, which spreads through Address Books. If anyone knows anything more about it, please post.

In various tests, free virus scanners caught as many, in some cases more, viruses than Norton or MacAfee.

I like Norton Systemworks, it does do wonders, but I wouldn't buy Norton AntiVirus on its own. Not worth it.

In my opinion anything that is free, ie Free antivirus is not going to be too good, therefore your going to have to splash teh cash, the 3 main* anti-virus programs are Norton, McAfee and Pc-cillian. These are the ones that most business seem to use and they aren't too expensive. Depending on what version of these software that you have, they check both the incoming and outgoing e-mails from your mail client software.
If you were really tight with the money, then just keep going to the norton.com page and run their virus checker and also just download the specific virus fix.
By the way the only way you can get infected (in 99% of e-mails) from a virus is if you open them, however these viruses, as mentioned earlier, can also send themselves to everyone in YOUR address book and therefore you think you are opening up an e-mail from a friend. There is a way of it not being able to send it to everyone in your address book, unfortunately I can't remember the character you add into the address book, check out microsoft.com for more details.

*This is merely my opinion as I have dealt with many different businesses round the country and these are the ones that most are useing

Just get a virus checker (they're free so just download it) and keep it up to date. Is that so hard for you lot?

It's worse than that. Let's assume you have a friend's E-Mail address in your Address Book. When you open the Virus E-Mail (or so I've heard), the Address Book catches the virus, and so does everyone IN the Address Book.

Wonderful. I have recieved about 20 emails from some company about insurance and stuff with attachments within the past few days.. Pigs!
Never thought you could actually get the virus just from opening an email though! That's news.
