I've been using a GART2-4115 (rebadged SART2-4115) modem/router for a while now since having BT's so called Broadband.

When I moved to Freeola the other day I was tempted to change the firmware as well as the ISP settings. It was a change I was about to regret (cue spooky music).

While Freeola as an ISP has been working fine, my router decided that after the firmware upgrade (V5) it wasn't a wireless router any more.

Basically:
- There is no wireless option at all in the router menu (192.168.1.1 menu)
- There is no light on the front of the router signifying WIFI is active.

What I've done so far:
- Reset factory defaults
- Tried the V2 firmware and the V4 firmware from here
- turned off, on, reset, stood on my head and chanted ancient chants to the gods of ADSL.

And so far? Nothing.

So...er...help!

It seems Safecom, bless them, put the wrong stickers on many routers.

Possibly a GWART2-54125

"Please then note that the SWART2-54125 / GWART2-54125 are the WIRELESS versions and the SART2-4115 / GART2-4115 DON'T have wireless but may be wrongly labelled (By SC ) as SWART2-54125 / GWART2-54125. Note the extra W. " (routertech forums)

Has yours got an aerial on it?

I'm not familiar with Safecom, but this looks like a wireless version: GWART2-54125

It's true, the site doesn't say it's wireless. But it says GART2-4115 on the sticker under the router. Any other ways of telling what it actually is?

Are you sure you've got the right model numbers there? According to Safecom they're both routers with no wireless functionality, which would explain the disappearance or the wireless part from yours!

Sounds like dodgy firmware.

I would ask in their support forum - but it looks like it's down at the moment!

Another option...
If you are happy with your router, apart from the wireless situation you could always go for a separate WAP (Wireless Access Point) which just connects via a network cable.

I use one of these (Netgear WG602) instead of the built-in wireless on my Thomson 585v6.

It means the 585 runs cooler as the wireless chipset isn't active.
I only use wireless for the kids PCs not my main office. So this gives easy internet control at the flick of a switch.
