I am new to all this overclocking business yet I can not find anyone who can help me or an article that actually makes sense for me to read and understand. Its current clock has been set back to 1.9GHZ yet one article stated they clocked it to 2.6GHZ. I don't want to go silly with it but I am wanting something like 2.2 GHZ but have only adjusted the FSB to 166 to make it up to 1.98 GHZ. What else can I alter to clock it up to 2.2GHZ? I have read about using multipliers but am unsure of what needs multiplying.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers.

If you are happy with the stability then thats cool.

To be honest it has ran stable enough since then and I have ran some pretty intense games on top settings. THE FSB isn't too high over the recommended FSB for my RAM and the temperature for both my GPU and CPU is stable enough to keep me ticking over.

If i were you i would run a torture test with prime 95. Just to be sure.

That is all you could hope for without getting faster RAM. That is not too bad at all.

Glad to hear you got something out of it anyway.

Managed to get 2.2GHZ out of it, a 250MHZ increase and everything seems stable. Had a couple of crashes but I changed the DDR Voltage up to 2.7 and since then everything has ran fine. Its running at about 43 degrees C idle and about 51 degrees C when put through the AIDA32 test and a couple of games. Didn't go as high as I hoped but it was better than what I expected.

I run games at 1024 by 768 pixels with 4X AA and 8X AF for the most part. I might go back to the 3.9 drivers as the 4.10's aren't really supported at the moment and certain games can not run with these drivers installed. Any ideas which are the best drivers to use?

Overdrive will do jack. Basically they tested it and got 0.5 FPS improvement. Nothing really noticable. Overdrive will not give you anything brilliant. If you a game runs slow at a certain setting then overdrive wont do much at all. Remember the 9800XT is nearly at the limits as it is, if you could overclock it by a good 50mhz for both GPU and RAM then you would get an improvement. But from what I have seen overdrive gives you 1 or 2 mhz more which gives very little improvement. What resolution do you run games at? As running them at a higher resolution helps with the look of the game without needing to do AA.

Farcry is still in development. Its a demo so not everything will be finished. Once the final game is released you may be able to have better graphics. But remember that AA and AF may run slower depending on the game. Personnally I dont use them as I run the games at 1600x1200 which looks smooth. Games do there own filtering which looks decent enough. I use 2x AA on Max Payne 2 as its set in game.

Yeah but you have to remember that it is the CPU that does the AI and any mathematical calculations, the hard drive that will be spinning game files, and the CD that has the rest on it.

You might get a few more frames, but it isn't lack of frames that are causing your problems here.

Its not just running it, I like to beef the settings up high whilst still maintaining a decent frame rate. On Max Payne 2 I can have 6X AA and 16X AF with everything set to high and with all efects on and I manage about 50-60 FPS. That being one of he most graphically impressive and demanding games out I can't understand why it isn't the same for Farcry. I know its a beta demo but I would have prefered more fluid animations and a slightly sharper frame rate, even with AA and AF set to 2X and 4X respectively. When I get the new fans for my PC I will enable OverDrive which should improve it a little.

It could be a point in the game that needs loading so it may slow down. If it happens at the same points all the time then its the game and not something else. Remember that running full AA and AF will slow the game down alot. Maybe put these to performance ratings, or limit the use of them.

Halflife 2 will run fine on your machine. Basically a modern PC will run it if you have a decent graphics card.
