The problem with most free SMS sites is that they usually take forever to deliver the message. By which time you will have bled to death (why you would text someone while you're dying I don't know).
Then again, the networks themselves screw up occasionally. I have had instances where texts have not been delivered till the following day. And that was through Orange/O2 themselves!

I've also had the same problem with texts, some never got through at all
Lycos is reasonably fast, and you get 3 text messages a day, which is a hell of a lot a year.
