I have a Gigabyte GA-7VAXP Motherboard, version 1.x

I want to upgrade the Bios so i can upgrade to a 2500+ Barton and Overclock it to 3200+.

I have @Bios on a CD, and it seems straight forward enough, but I like to ask questions when there is a risk involved.

-What is the chance of a net update going wrong?
-What is the chance it wont boot after?
-If it fails, it wont fail the system instantly will it?
-If it fails, can I "upgrade" it with the saved old Bios and restore it and try again?
-Any other info on @Bios as well ;).

Thanks to anyone who helps.

Funny you should say that, ive noticed that myself. On another note my brothers GA-7VAXP died about 1 week ago now, it was about 4 days short of being a year old.

OcUK Still have loads under Intel "Motherboards - Motherboards supporting the Intel Pentium and Celeron Processors", just none for the AMD range.

I'd noticed that and didn't really know what to make of it. I'm still using an aged GA7DX - it's been fine but still not sure why I bought it in the first place - but I'll be switching manufacturers when I upgrade.

ebuyer still offering em, and Gigabyte still producing.

Far as I am aware they are still quality, been using Gig and Asus Boards for few years now.

Well, i aint heard nout.

Hey, can i just ask. My max FSB is 333mhz, so can i overclock the Baron 2500+ (that's wingin its way to my atm) to 3200+ (400mhz FSB) or just to the 3000+ speeds (333 mhz FSB)?

rite, i read that Dual Bios is twin Bios Chips, so if one dies the other one boots into action until the other is fixed. So if anything does go wrong it will still boot.

At least this is what I was telling myself 5 minutes ago! haha.

I just thought "to hell with it", and ran the @BIOS Writer, downloaded the F14 Flash, ok'ed it all... that was the scarest 30 seconds of my life! Haha.

Indeed. Gigabyte motherboards generally have two BIOS chips, so if one goes wrong the other takes over. BIOS updates can be bum-clenching, but they very rarely fail.

And even in the worst case scenario, where the board won't boot, you can pay Gigabyte to send you another BIOS chip. I requested a new BIOS chip for my 2 year old EpoX 8K5A3, and it only cost a tenner.

As long as when you do the update your pc does not switch off or reboot then you should be fine, if it does go wrong though your motherboard may have had it, i think that motherboard has dual bios capabilities which you should look into before doing it then you will have a backup, i have done many bios updates (even one today) and have never had a problem.
