My goldfish is in its tank behind me as I type. It has curved over and is just floating still, except for a few occaisional twitches when it floats above the water. It is dying.

It is probably in pain. I don't think you can die without being in pain. It has just started me wondering, is animal pain the same as human pain? Is causing an animal to feel pain any less serious than causing a human to feel pain?

This is a bit of a half-formed topic, but I havn't had time to think about this much. Anybody have any thoughts?

I dont think animal pain is the same as human pain because my dog does some soppy things and some of those things would really hurt me, like when he jumped from the top of my stairs head first, he got straight back up and had some water.Wierd?

Oh yeah, my dog gets an errection when he hasn't seen me for a while and when he does, this red stick-thingy (inside of his d!ck) come out and then when his errection has gone it goes back in.I just think thats sick, especially when hes trying to hump my leg, hes only 6 months!!

Does this happen to anyone elses dog??

Of course animals can feel pain, it would be ridiculous to think they don't. Why shouldn't they? If they didn't feel pain they'd think they were invincible, they wouldn't learn by reinforcement etc. Humans are animals, so what makes us so special that we should have this gift and others don't?

That's what they say, but recently scientists have been saying that fish CAN feel pain, and that fishing is incredibly cruel.

To answer your question - yes, of COURSE animals can feel pain. Never stood on a dog's tail?
