My goldfish is in its tank behind me as I type. It has curved over and is just floating still, except for a few occaisional twitches when it floats above the water. It is dying.

It is probably in pain. I don't think you can die without being in pain. It has just started me wondering, is animal pain the same as human pain? Is causing an animal to feel pain any less serious than causing a human to feel pain?

This is a bit of a half-formed topic, but I havn't had time to think about this much. Anybody have any thoughts?

P.S. did anybody read about the talking parrot this morning? And I don't mean says random phrases, it talks to people. They put it in front of a picture of a guy with a mobile and it said "who's the fella on the phone?" or something.

Cat's feel pain but don't understand it. If they've got some kind of painful injury or disease they will try and run away from it. That's why dying cats run off and hide.

Going off on a tangent, it's rather cruel how some people treat their pets. Even my best friend at school was to blame - over at his house, his cat had just woken up from a nap near the edge of the sofa (I think we woke her up).

Instead of holding it, telling it to move or whatever, my friendjust instinctively kicks the sofa, scaring the cat. Admittedly it was funny watching her jump a few feet skywards, but still...

Extensive research at the local Monkey Punching lab has shown that, yes, animals do feel pain.

As a side note, I found that it is possible to punch a monkey 86 times in the face (jabs rather than haymakers) before my arms got too tired to carry on. Who said we've never learned anything from animal experimentation?

Step on a cat's tail or dog's foot and they'll hit the roof.

Stamp on a human foot (obviously, a little more pressure has to be applied, because of the greater size) and you'll get a similar result (...and, probably, "something in return", aswell!).

So, I think this proves it: Animals DO feel pain like Humans. :P :)

But what about diffeent humans...
Who hurts more, out of a "dainty, little" woman or a "real-man ["ARF-ARF-ARF!"]"?
