Greetings once more - your favourite supplemental GAD fest is back again, taunting you with prizes you probably won't win like a carrot in front of a donkey. If you didn't love it, you wouldn't keep coming back.

Something a little different this time, in that this competition actually requires you to think a little rather than splatter your 'artistic' daubings on a banner :) What we'd like you to do is come up with some ways in which Special Reserve could promote themselves effectively. Bear in mind we haven't exactly got the backing of the Sultan of Brunei, we'd like you to drop us a few ideas on how best to get across the fact that Special Reserve are cheap, reliable and have a wide product range.

This could be improvements to ways we currently run things, new product ranges you think would appeal to our customers (bear in mind we currently sell rather a lot of stuff - see left sidestrip), new exciting ways to advertise our existing offers or just any ideas that have been floating round your head. Is there some range of products you just can't get hold of that would be perfect for us to sell? Let us know!

Post your ideas in this thread and we'll announce a winner at around the end of February, let's say the 27th. The best suggestions will win whatever prizes we give them, most probably yer standard £25/£50 GAD prize.

(And before anyone brings it up, yes we do think about this stuff ourselves, but we wanted to see what you lot think as well. So button it!)

---------------------------------------------------------

And the winner is..... phi11ip, for the following suggestion:

"Here's an idea, and if carried out correctly could be very beneficial. I've got a nice example too just to prove to you just how beneficial it is. www.staghosting.com was a free hosting service set up last year with the intention of boosting the ratings of a a few sites belonging to a company, one of these sites was www.actiondays.co.uk. Basically, unlike your free hosting, this hosting only offered hosting to domain names, you get 200MB disk space and 4 Gig bandwidth a month, you can upload from any connection unlike Freeola. So basically the company which has nothing to do with hosting has just set up a hosting site, sounds stupid doesn't it? What the requirements of this free hosting are though is that you must display a couple of small text links on your site, on mine you can see them on the links section on the side of the page. Google counts each link as a 'vote' and increases the pagerank of the site in question meaning that it shows up higher in searches, I see you've got 'cheap games' pretty much sorted but you don't show up anywhere when 'PS2 games' is typed in. If people were to display these text links on their sites it would soon make you appear high up on the search results. www.actiondays.co.uk was absolutely nowhere when it started, it had a low pagerank and didn't appear on searches. Have a look now though and you'll see that searching for 'corporate event' on Google.com returns the site as number 2 out of 6,500,000. Think about it. You've already got the hosting capabilities, all it would require is a server and someone to monitor the sites every now and then to make sure the links are there."

Congratulations and well done to everyone who entered.

A great way to expand Special Reserve is to go into advertising on the television. Give some examples of your cheap prices by comparing them to other game shops prices.

Tell the public where your discount stores are, lower your prices even more than they are now for a limited time only to draw more gamers to shop at Special Reserve.

Also it wouldn't hurt to do a couple of buy one get one free deals. For example, If you buy two games for the same console you get a third one FREE! It could also be used for accessories like getting a third controller free when you buy two.

In the monthly Special Reserve magazine you could have a lot more reviews than prices of games and so on. People want to know what games are coming out and if they’re any good. WE NEED ANSWERS AND WE NEED THEM NOW!!!

So take this advice and maybe Special Reserve could be on every corner in the UK.

^ ^ ^ ^ . . . no, no no no no sunshine, you gotta think outside the box. All of their free gifts are £7.99 in the magazine, HENCE every free gift is more than £7.00. I never said anything about spending over £7.00.

Although I do think he is right about lowering your prices a bit, I'm considering not re-subscribing because PLAY.com is so much more efficient for games and things. AND THEY SELL PORNO DVD'S!. What a great Idea, Start selling Porno's Special reserve. Your new tagline could be:

'We specially reserve your pleasure for cheaper'

How about a special reserve calander.I know it sounds rubbish but it could be the best of both worlds GIRLS and GAMES.

A babe in a bikini for every month of the year.Yes i know its been done before but the calender could have the names of the games that are due for release printed by the actual date.

Obviously spec reserve would have to put a disclaimer or something saying that the dates given may be off by a few years (duke nukem forever). But it would give you some idea as to when games were due for release instead of searching the net.

The babes dont have to be in bikinis the pictures could be based around different games. There are plenty of games to choose from after all.
I would buy one if it was available as i got a calender for christmas and it has pictures of dogs on it(i mean come on dogs no present for that relative next year)

This is just one idea that my bikini babe and game mad brain came up with and men are supposed to think about sex every 7 seconds so here's the proof.

Erm... SR just changed their layout recently, and that's not going to get any more sales, is it? Just waste time, as such.

Oh, and if they could just 'reduce prices', I think they would, but they do need to get profits you know. And expensiver - genius :-D

What do you mean by these 'Happys'?????
And I thought if you buy anything over £5, you get a reddie not £7.

Just an oppinion, Reddie sounds better than happy.

SR; you should change some majour things, not costly. Like your websites layout, background. It'l make it look more interesting.

Oh, and 1 VEYRY VERY important thing, which can make ANY company go from zero-hero.
Can you reduce the price of your products? you advertise alot and say that their cheep, most of your game are £10 expensiver then the gamestore I buy games from. Lowering costs will mean that you get more costumers, if you agree, itl be a GREAT thing

The easiest way to ensure more customers it to enforce a new system instead of Reddies. I call them 'Happies'.

For Example, instead of 'Special Reserve Discount Network' have
'Special Reserve Super Happy Network' And instead of 'If you buy any product from us, we will send you one Reddy which you can exchange for one of our free gifts worth more than £7.00!!!' Have 'If you buy any product from us, we will send you one Happy. After you've recieved 10 Happies, you can exchange them for ultimate Happy which in turn makes YOU. . . happy'

You win, We win, The world wins.

I'll use that one, that's pretty good stuff.

Need a good UKgames banner now.

If someone can find me a decent Gameaday banner and a decent UKgames banner, I'll place them on my site and see how many hits they get.

I can't find any good ones at the moment.

Hmmm, found this though, it's pretty crap!
