Do you think, under extreme conditions, that you could be capable of voluntarily killing another human being?

Example Scenarios :

You're in the Armed Forces, fighting a cause you believe in.

You're in the Armed Forces, fighting a cause you are strongly opposed to.

You confront someone who has murdered someone close to you.

Someone threatens to kill you unless you kill someone else you love.

Someone threatens to kill you unless you kill someone you severely dislike.

Someone has broken into your home late at night with unknown intent. They are much bigger and stronger than you, and could kill you with ease if they wished. But they haven't seen you yet.

Someone holds undisputed proof that your religion is a complete hoax, and everything you have ever believed in is a Lie.

It's 11:30pm, after closing time, someone spills your last pint, and laughs when you show displeasure.

You've been in a plane crash atop a mountain, there are quite a few survivors, it's a long way to the nearest Mcdonalds, and you're feeling a bit peckish.

Any other scenarios you can think of?

I would only kill someone if I was fighting for my Queen and country or for my own life

still even war is no excuse really, its the 21st century after all you'd think the world would have stopped fighting and arguing by now.

Assuming I'm extremely strong..

You confront someone who has murdered someone close to you.
- Definately. I'd kill them with all my heart! And try to enjoy it too putting them through all the pain they would've caused.

Someone has broken into your home late at night with unknown intent. They are much bigger and stronger than you, and could kill you with ease if they wished. But they haven't seen you yet.
- Call the police.. while waiting, which would take forever in my area, just hide. If they do end up about to walk out the house with my stuff, I'd try to attack them with something heavy.

Someone holds undisputed proof that your religion is a complete hoax, and everything you have ever believed in is a Lie.
- Their opinion. Leave it.

It's 11:30pm, after closing time, someone spills your last pint, and laughs when you show displeasure.
- Leave it, they're probably drunk and laugh in their face.

You've been in a plane crash atop a mountain, there are quite a few survivors, it's a long way to the nearest Mcdonalds, and you're feeling a bit peckish.
- Nope. Wouldn't ever eat another human's flesh. Urgh.

I have the urge to kill random people sometimes though. "Just like in the movies.." Weirdo.

Wouldn't know until actually faced with the situation, however my feelings at the moment are i could kill another human being. Hell there's quite a few i'd like to kill that live near me.

Most people COULD. Most people WOULD not.

First two would.

All other wouldn't.

Could in all.

-You're in the Armed Forces, fighting a cause you believe in.

Yes, if I believed strongly enough.

-You're in the Armed Forces, fighting a cause you are strongly opposed to.

No. I did think about joining the military, purely because I had nothing else I much wanted to do. But the whole Iraq thing made me ask a question similar to this. And I decided not.

-You confront someone who has murdered someone close to you.

Rationally? No. But if I'm acting irrationally, maybe.

-Someone threatens to kill you unless you kill someone else you love.

I'd go hide or have a pop at the person making the threat, 'it depends on the ciiircumstances madam' (anyone else recognise that ad?)

-Someone threatens to kill you unless you kill someone you severely dislike.

If running or going for the person making the threat weren't good options, then depending on how much I disliked the person, maybe.

Though thinking about it, if I really disliked them, for good reasons (like they were killing other people or something) maybe it'd be a good opportunity.
Is that a bit messed up?

-Someone has broken into your home late at night with unknown intent. They are much bigger and stronger than you, and could kill you with ease if they wished. But they haven't seen you yet.

Rationally, no. Expect if they were clearly armed, which I'd take to mean they were willing to kill me, given the chance.
Irrationally, I still don't think so.

-Someone holds undisputed proof that your religion is a complete hoax, and everything you have ever believed in is a Lie.

Hopefully I'd be a little miffed ( :^D ), but shake their hand and be grateful for having been set onto the right track...

-It's 11:30pm, after closing time, someone spills your last pint, and laughs when you show displeasure.

I'd be really pished off, but I'd be really lame and not do anything about it. It'd make me feel crap and useless to sit there seething while doing nothing about it, but there I'd be.

-You've been in a plane crash atop a mountain, there are quite a few survivors, it's a long way to the nearest Mcdonalds, and you're feeling a bit peckish

I'd feast on the dead like a hungry b-movie zombie at an all you can eat buffet that's holding an eating competition with a grand prize of a fortnight in Hawaii.

But probably not the living.

-Hostage scenario
If there was no real threat to my life, probably not.
If there was, sure, you've got to have a go, right? If they have guns, are all distracted, and you can pick off the first one discretely, you've got to have a reasonable chance, right?

You're in the Armed Forces, fighting a cause you believe in.

-maybe if it threatened the lives of me and the ones I love

You're in the Armed Forces, fighting a cause you are strongly opposed to.
- UH NO. I o not believe in killing, war and murder as it is let alone doing it for something that I do not like and disagree with!

You confront someone who has murdered someone close to you.
- No, I belive in forgiveness though I strongly feel I would nto have it in my heart to forgive the murderer of a loved one. I would want him to know what he did hurt everyone and that he is scum - then try to turn his life around instead of staying scum. I would not murder them though I would probably want to

Someone threatens to kill you unless you kill someone else you love.
- NO WAY, they come first

Someone threatens to kill you unless you kill someone you severely dislike.
- NO WAY, I would not hold my life above others even if they are disliked. In a form that would be murder.

Someone has broken into your home late at night with unknown intent. They are much bigger and stronger than you, and could kill you with ease if they wished. But they haven't seen you yet.
-Id hide and call English - bloke. My first reaction would not to be KILL THEM BEFORE THEY KILL ME.. If it come down to it and I had to defend myself and others I would try my best to 'injure or spank the rat over the head renduring him unconscious and injured' not KILL him.

Someone holds undisputed proof that your religion is a complete hoax, and everything you have ever believed in is a Lie.
- I re evaluate my life. I do not let my woop ass out

It's 11:30pm, after closing time, someone spills your last pint, and laughs when you show displeasure.
-This is so relevant to Borat it is making me laugh that he wrote it! :P

You've been in a plane crash atop a mountain, there are quite a few survivors, it's a long way to the nearest Mcdonalds, and you're feeling a bit peckish.
- mmmmmmmmmm well I am hungry! I watched a film like thin actually - i am sure it was about a group of mexican students that crashed and ate the ones that died.

Any other scenarios you can think of?

I am trying not to - but that is not working
