Apparently, "Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation" is so bad that it goes straight to DVD in the UK in April, but only as part of a boxset with the Roughnecks animated series.

Bwhahahahahahaha. It sounds as if this movie will suck big time......

I didn't even know they'd made a sequel, last I heard it was still in pre-production and that was about a year ago.

Yup, It they couldn't even make it a Clancey Brown vehicle, its born to suck. I can't wait to see it.

Hmmm, A "House of the dead" and "Starship Troopers 2" night, with loads of cans? Sounds fun :)

I've looked into it, and Phil Tippet is directing. He's never directed before, but he owns the effects company that'll be working on it. The film's budget is something like 20 odd million dollars. The original had around 100 million.

They couldn't even get Sgt./Pvt. Zimm back in it, and he's a no-name actor. Terrible.

Its the fact that its straight to video *but only as part of the animated box set* that gets my chuckles.

It must be *terrible* to not even be released rental first.

Ahem. Ironically, I was just thinking about Starship Troopers 2 yesterday or the day before. I knew it was being made, but nothing else. I was hoping it would be a big budget, same cast/same crew affair to satisfy the fans of the original (despite the fact that the first one failed to make any money at the box office) - I hadn't even considered that it would be a straight to video piece of crap.

I bet the CGI looks awful.

Intelligence would dictate they 'nuke the planet from orbit - it's the only way to be sure'.

Heheheheh, Verhoven said he wanted them to get massacred, and although they were supposedly technologically more advanced, he just wanted to do a big and gory battle sequence.

In the book, they all wear power armour (as seen in the animated series apparently, I've never seen it) but had to remove it from the film for budget reasons.

It was pretty good despite the cheesiness. plenty of gore and action and idiots being killed.

answer me this - if they had such excellent weapons and massive space ships, WHY did they go onto the planet with nothing but crappy machine guns, and get slaughtered by the 1000?
