I am only computer novice. I can use programs but not written any. Okay maybe I am an idiot to try but....
If I need a book, fine provided it is a step by step easy, easy. Nothing too difficult to understand.
I would like a general site, covering genealogy and odd bits about family history, places, and anything that takes my fancy. I would like to incorporate diagrams and photos/pictures and know these take up more space and time.
Any help would be appreciated.
i recommend frontpage, but it will take time to master, if you are looking for really cheap www. urls, i would go to tripod, when you register, prefix your username with (www.) without brackets, this will give you a site with the style www.username.tripod.com, you can also personalise your adverts, to your tastes.

Wow, i could knock up that design in 10 mins on notepad. Coding HTML yourself can produce much more rewarding results, whereas Frontpage tends to mess things up etc.
but if you wanted a good cheap option get microsoft frontpage
as it is brilliant for me. dreamweaver is good i have it but it is very expensive. flash mx is good but it is a bit hard for begginers.
if you want to go the cheap way you can use notepad but it requires knowledge of html and dhtml or javascript. go to www.dynamicdrive.com
I tthink i saw something there about how to get started.
if i were you id go for frontpage as it is cheap and effective.
if you want to see how good frontpage can be got to my website.
at www.buck1.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk or www.buck1.co.uk (not finished yet though)
hope this will get you going
