As talks continue between the 2 companies who share the rights to the Hobbit casting has already begun.
Sir Ian McKellen claims he would love to play Gandalf the Grey again claiming Gandalf the White was a bit of a stick in the mud.

But he was under the influence of the ring for most of his small part in the process, plus Ian Holm was made up to look older, he would be made younger for The Hobbit.

I thought Ian Holm did a fine job of Bilbo.
Well if ian Mc kellen was going to be playing gandalf it doesn't matter whether it's Gandalf the white or Grey because in the story of the hobbit this is quite a few decades before he even urns into gandalf the White, so why is he so worried?
I think Ian McKellen is the only actor who could pull Gandalf off as well as he does.
If they were to include Gandalf in The Hobbit, he's the only one he could do it.
