Some shops must think their customers are complete morons who also happen to be blind. Today I went looking around a few game shops checking out prices for a couple of games, hoping I might find somewhere with a decent few quid off ones I want to buy.

One well-known four lettered games shop in particular infuriated me at how little they seem to regard the intelligence of their customers. The shop in question had huge red sale stickers stuck onto just about every game on the shelves, and looking around I quickly noticed something odd, a lot of the stickers quoted things such as 10% off and 20% off and so on, but when I asked at the desk about this due to the price sticker on the game being what it was before Christmas, the assistant said the price on the sticker WAS the sale price!

When I told the assistant in my confusion that this couldn’t possibly the right he went and asked for a second opinion from the shop manager who also said this price was in fact the sale price. So apparently their sale price of 20% off is exactly the same as it was when it went on the shelves brand new a couple of weeks ago, the game in question being FIFA 2004 for PS2.

I put the game back on the shelf and went to another shop of the same chain to see what the story was there with the game, and what do you know, it was the exact same story there! The game had the big red sale sticker with 20% off and a full price sticker, so off I went to the cash desk game in hand to ask if this was the actual price after 20% off, and again I was told it was. I have to say I am outraged at this. It seems some stores have no shame these days.

In the Game shop I go to, they have the 20% off stickers on certain games which also have the full price stickers of £39.99 on them, however you do get 20% off that price so it would be £31.99.

And heres me thinking my Game store was crap, but it seems they do get worse.

That's true, there are loads of cases of idiots pricing items incorrectly and consumers taking advantage. Some guy got like a hundred PS1s years ago because they missed a digit off the price.

As far as I am aware, under the trade descriptions laws, or whatever it is, if a company advertises a product as money off, they have to sell it to you with the money off, or withdraw the product.

You should of got the manager down and made a scene, then he may of been embarrased and gave you 20% of the price.
It could happen.

Just a note: They're not supposed to be stickering non-sale games with sale stickers either.

OI!

With reguard to this "20% off" thing - if the company in question is Game, they're meant to be sticking red stickers on all the reduced games with the reduced prices on - not sticking the *%off stickers on.

I can confirm that Fifa isn't in the sale - but for the sake of honouring what SR asked, I'm not gonna say sale prices of any other items.

GAME employ monkeys. Back in the White Label days (I had no income) I did all my game shopping there just about (this was back before "surfing the web" was "popular") and I lost count of the amount of times they'd forget to take the security label off, resulting in my being stopped and asked "Do you have a receipt for this?" by some gormless uni drop out.

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I would suggest that, after walking in, browsing, selecting a game, walking to the till, queuing, paying and having the game put in a brand spanking new bag with the GAME logo all over it, all in full view of everyone in the tiny little shop, that, yes, I would have a receipt. Monkeys, the lot of 'em.

Should have lifted your top. You might have gotten the game for free.

Or then again, you might not.

If I was serving, you would.

Or then again, you might not.
