as you will know sega are stopping the production of the dream cast, only to make a secret rpg for the good old gamecube. It is said that we will also see sonic appearing in a gamecube title and he might even team up with mario.

Now the dreamcast is dying out i cant help but wonder what is the future of the classic gaming company. AS the former president died a week ago everyone says that has done it for sega. will sega permanently team up with nintendo and drive microsoft and sony out of business forever. Or will they help microsoft and the cube make some decent games, or they could give us all a shock by having alliance with the ps2 and 3.

At the moment sega arent revealing much about the future but it is sad that they might leave the console making business permanently.

I think it is a pity that the dreamcast is stopping after just little over one year. Since the mega drive have never really had much luck. As the games were decent enough they didnt seem to get as popularas sony and nintendo. The sega saturn was not there best performance and then the dc was broght out at a time that gave them a disadvantage.

They have always been a decent company but have never been as sucessful as planned. Sure the mega drive and master system were good but not mind numbingly addictive(apart from streets of rage which is a classic).

So hopefully sega will team up with one of the 3 other already brilliant games companies most likely nintendo which is definitely my odds on favourite and continue to make excellent games for quite a time.

In my opinion the dreamcast was a big hit but no one else seem to take to it as the psx was already out and kickin @ss. So where did it all go wrong? and did sega team up with nintendo to make an rpg because they were going bust over the dc's failier?

Anyway i still havent lost faith in sega but i have a feeling it might be end...

cheers for reading

As things continue in their present course, I doubt more and more each day that Sega will have much interest in the X-Box. The surprising fact that SquareSoft has decided not to develop for Microsoft's console is something that makes me wonder whether there's something they just didn't like about it or the manner in which Microsoft operates. I'm not saying that Sega will take its cues from Square, but they have to be aware of the change of heart.

Besides, it may be possible that Sega used Windows for the DC out of necessity, and not necessarily out of any familiarity with Microsoft. Who knows.

I've got a really good scythe in Diablo 2 at the moment... rare class, it's a pretty good weapon I think.

For the moment at least.

Actually the Scythe is because he harvests souls you see, but still it seems to be thought of as being used to kill people more often nowadays.

That would be nice, if Sega makes good games for other consoles, it would be like a step towards world peace (and ending the console wars). Doesn't the Grim Reaper have a Scythe? I wonder why a Scythe is considered a weapon, isn't it a bit clumsy?

Sega can be a very big developer if they want to be now.

They're going to make a killing porting over successful DC games, and other franchises.

That will leave them with plenty of money to play with to make sure they can supply us gamers with some interesting and original titles.

As i've said before, i think that Sega will be a big deciding factor in which company wins the next-gen console. Even if you have never bought a Sega console you cant deny that Sega make amazing games. If Sega decides to only support Nintendo say, then I think a lot of people, me included, will buy the 'Cube instead of another machine.

I hope that Sega makes enough money to release another console in a few years time, they have been one step ahead each time they release a console, its just that sales havent been as high as they have needed to be. Hopefully the next one will sell a lot better than the Saturn and the DC!

I think Sega have made the right decision. With the Saturn, and then the Dreamcast not reaching the necessary sales levels, and with Microsoft entering the console market, developing another Sega console could have really crippled them, if the sales weren't there at the end. Even if they managed to come up with a great console for the time (as they did with the Dreamcast), they would probably need to get a sizeable user base in a short period of time, to get the much needed money back into the company. Big names have dropped completely out of the gaming market for different reasons in the past. And unfortunately being at, or near, the top of the tree one year doesn't give you a right to be there forever. A steady flow of games from Sega across the major platforms will let them beef up their quarterly financial stats, and do them no end of good as a company. Who knows, but now they can concentrate on software there could be another 'Golden Age' of Sega on the way, albeit in a different guise. As a PS2 owner, I'm definitely looking forward to the Sega games coming my way. I hope they manage to stick to their game play ethics, and give companies like EA (who are well known for presentation, less so for gameplay) a subtle reminder that it's not all about flash graphics.

Let me put it this way: Based upon things I've read, the likelihood of Sega working closely with Nintendo on the Gamecube is very, very HIGH. There's been confirmation that they're most definitely working with Nintendo on an original RPG that'll appear only on the Gamecube, but that isn't going to be it. Though I doubt it will happen, I wouldn't be at all surprised to find Sega allied exclusively with Nintendo by the end of the year. Despite the competitions these two giants have had, they appear to be very close to one another in terms of their standards of quality and their lengthy histories.

As for Sega's future: It looks very bright indeed.

No you are correct, Virtua Fighter 4 is not a PS2 exclusive, but it is on PS2 and DC coming out this year. There has been no confirmation that Sega will develop for X-Box nor Gamecube yet, but there are strong rumours toward the latter.

Sega will no doubt become one of the biggest 3rd party companies of all time. Think about it. 10 (or is that 9) departements all as big as the biggst development houses that can compete in any genre

In rpgs, u have Eternal Arcadia, Shenmue and PSO
In Fighters u have Fighting vipers, Virtua Fighter and some more
Racers: Sega Rally, Ferrari 355 and Sega GT

The fact is that companies like EA will not regret not suppoirting Sega. With the death of the DC, games that were only on the DC (and hence did not influence Ea's dominance in the PSX market) will now cross over. It's for that reason that companies like Sony ahve got Sega on board
