hi guys,
i know there have been a million of those "i hate townies" threads before and i wanna make it clear that this is NOT one of them, it just so happens that the negative aspect in this lil tale is a group of the little bar stewards.
i'm sad because i give people respect, i'm courteous and polite and try my best to be a good person. it's not hard, not at all. so why then does the world seem to be full of people who are the complete reverse?
saturday night i went out with some friends from uni and had a REALLY good night, y'know those nights whee everyone is ina good mood and all things are cool?? one of those...
that is until we were walking home. 3 little butt-clowns (about 17/18) were getting kicked out of a burger place for being a pain just as we were walking past. they were loud and obnoxious and of course started shouting abuse at us, which was met with the usual response ;)
ok, so a little verbal bashing, no problem, keep walking, that's th end of it right? wrong. i turn round and they've started walking across the road and a few seconds latre and getting stuck into a mate of mine, i go to help him out, pull a coule of them off him and think "ok, a little scuffle, THAT'S the end of it).. sadly the aforementioned "missing-link mentality" rears it's ugly head and one of the little buggers takes a swing at me...
*clunk*
hmmmm, that hurt a little more than it should for a skinny little dude like him... aaah, that'll be why. the little tw@ had a bottle up his sleeve and as a result i'm now pi$$ing blood from my head (luckily it didn't smash though). as i'm trying to call either the police or an ambulane, he runs up shouting "you'd better not call the police" and whacks me in the nose with his damn bottle (didn't break it, but messed my glasses up a treat :( ) eventually it all subsided but the result was that i have to spend my christmas with a nice collection of stitches in my eyebrow and in quite a fair amount of pain.
now i don't mind a bit of pain, i don't even mind that a confrontation happened too much, that seems to be the way the world is heading anyway, what angers me is that people now seem to think nothing of brandishing potentially deadly objects instead of backing themselves up. it's all so cowardly, 3 of them all leap on 1 person at a time and start swinging heavy tubes of glass around. i mean, what hope do these people have? to be SUCH a crappy person at 17/18?? they surely will just end up in jail??
is there no way back from this downward spiral? for surely as long as these cretins are paranting the next generation, things can only get worse?
anyways, "season of good will" indeed :)
merry christmas everyone!
kinda says it all doesn't it? :(
i'm going away for christmas so if i miss anything in the next few days i'll respond when i get back.
thanks for your replies though!!
My point was that these actions are being perpetrated (sp??) by younger and younger people, which is why it makes me sad. Of couse, negative things play on my mind more than positive but one thing that DID cross my mind was this:
I lived in Holland for a little while last year and, while there was a certain arrogance about them, i never once saw any trouble. at all (i'm not saying the whole coutry is 100% safe, but my experience was Den Haag for about 6 months and never saw anything), which sets me thinking that it must be a conditioning of mentality situation, the Dutch are raised to quite an educated level and the country is a forward thinking and progressive place, proud to be part of the EU, etc.
and then there's England. i'm sure we all have out opinions of what it is to be English, but to my mind it seems that the "narrow-minded, knuckle-dragging, union jack-shorts-wearing, looking-for the chip shop when they're abroad" brigade certainly seem to be all too common, our anti-Euro stance (while sensible at this stage) certainly doesn't look like changing, a majority of people (including myself) are hard pushed to speak a 2nd language (hell, a lot are still battling with english :) ) and a lot of the attitudes smack of xenophobia.
i think where england is concerned i'm a bit superficial, i'm grateful that i have a roof over my head, water, food, a job, etc... but when i scratch the surface and look at what drives all that i'm a bit disappointed :(
maybe this thread should've been titled "i'm sad with the state of england" eh?
but Simon Says, i certainly see where you were coming from, good point.
And what a typically snide trick this trio of weasels employed - an empty bottle stuffed up their sleeves in order to give their punches an extra bit of 'punch'.
In the past I've had the inconvenience of being chased by a 15-strong regiment of drunken no-marks intent on bashing my brains out for no apparent reason.
Only an extended blast from a flame-thrower can cure these numskulls.
This will all probably eventually happen and I just hope I wont be there.
Have a Good Christmas.
Anyway, the real point to this post is that I really don't think that your title is appropriate. Why are you imposing the actions of a minority group on the whole world? How many people did you see that night, how many strangers did you jostle with amicably at a bar, or accidentally brush by and spill a little of their drink, or they spill yours? Quite a few I'd wager. But the vast majority of people ARE people like you and like me, who just want to get along, or mind our own business and have a decent time.
True society as I see it is degenerating into perhaps something less "civilized" but I see that as an issue encompassing all of us. Bad language begets bad language, violence begets violence and sex begets sex. The more you experience the more desensitized you become and the greater thrill you seek. You need only look at cinema ratings to see that. I'm still shocked when I hear swearing on television before the watershed, but it seems to happen more and more. And I'm pretty damn sure that I'm more tolerant of swearing than the previous generation.
Okay, this has turned into a bit of a ramble now, but it seems like I'm the only one in the department and I'll be damned if I'm going to do any proper work.
The fact is that civilisation is heading down the toilet.
The best we can do is cover the stench with pine scented toilet duck and enjoy the ride!
Merry Christmas everyone
