Whoever invented the Bible is a business mastermind.
WoRd.
he disguised himself as a see-saw, a park bench and even a palm tree, but to no avail. the animals from the jungle saw right through his disguises and warned the children in good time. the clincher was when a large elephant threw the poor croc up in the air, where he sailed through space, and burnt to death when he hit the sun.
its a beautiful but tragic story, that we can learn so much from. no mention of that in the big read though.
Was driving home on Saturday night and they had a talk show thing on Radio 5 where some guy was getting so wound up that LOTR only won because of the movies etc. Undoubtedly true, but is it really an issue? The thing is supposed to be a popularity contest for goodness sake, and that was the one voted for by most people. It is far from the greatest book ever written IMO, but then that's not what they were trying to find. As it is, great book that still had a huge number of fans before the movies.
Same bloke also got really annoyed as the people who were voting for LOTR probably hadn't read all the other books. Well surprise surprise. What percentage of people who voted for any book will have done that? I'd put the farm on it being considerably less than 1%.
It was so obviously that LotR would win - too many people love it.
