I saw a mugging today that made myself and quite a few other people smirk with satisfaction. A bloke came up behind an old woman in a packed street (O'Connell St for those of you that know it), nabbed her bag and went to run for it, only to run straight into two Gardai 10 feet away! They grabbed him, areested him and hauled him off down the street to their car. Most satisfying seeing gardai do something useful for a change.

They sure do. And it really helps their cause by taking the pi$$ out of the Irish in everything from The Simpsons to Broken Sword! :P

Does that have anything to do with the Americans who walk around going "I'm actually Irish" when they most certainly are not?

I can't see the point in someone learning Irish if they're not Irish mind. It's not as if its spoken anywhere but here, unlike French. Sometimes its called the poetic language though for some reason, and oddly a lot of Americans are keen to learn "Oirish" phrases!

It's just that there's someone ranting on about how if you're not Irish, you shouldn't really see it as another one of those languages to be learnt, such as French or German.

That I'd believe.

However, Welsh is an

I've been told Welsh is not as complicated by someone who can speak both.

Easier? I tell you no way was it easy.

What do you feel about foreigners and other folk who aren't natively Irish about learning your langauage, Lindgren?
