"Texas Hold'em Poker - What happens if you have the same hand."

At school we play poker with M&M's and i watch Late night poker on Discovery channel. And im sure i know all the rules and at school 2 of us got the same hand (lets say a jack in our hand and a jack in the river)

Now im sure that the money is split because nothing else can happen. But this guy claims the other card decides what wins (being a high card. But i think only an ace can be a high card) Say he had a queen as well as the jack and i only had a 10.

So he took the M&M's. But i'm sure this isnt right.

Does any one know?

It's the best 5 card hand. If you had Jack 10 and he had Jack Queen, with a King, Jack, 3, 4 and 5 on the board, then the other guy would win because he has two Jacks with a King and a Queen. You only have two Jacks with a King and a 10. The Queen beats the 10.

*along with 2 other card to make the 5 hand

But, but, what if there was a King in the river, couldnt we both pick that up and it makes our hand equal.

The other bloke won because he had a better 'kicker'. If you both had a pair of Jacks with a Queen, you would have shared it.

Aces can be low and high in a straight.

hmm me neither. im sure it doesnt, coz ive been playing on the yahoo pool rooms, and this happened and it split the money.

Goes to the other card in that hand, ie, if it was a full house, whoever had highest wins.

Not sure if the card uninvolved in play gets counted though.

I thought it went down to the next high card. I don't think it has to be an ace.

He won.
