After being cooped up ill on my own for the last week or so (with no family to wait on me hand and foot), I've had a lot of trouble sleeping. In fact, for the last two nights on the trot, I've not slept a wink. Five minutes at the most, plus the odd half hour during the day is all I've had, due to the weird 'nasal drip' illness I have - sounds nice, no?

Anyway, my point is, I now truly understand how excruciating it must be to be a proper insomniac, not being able to sleep when that's all you want to do. I almost went mad last night just trying to keep my emotions in check - it's natural to try and fall asleep, but when your body doesn't let you, your brain starts freaking out. I've only been like this for two nights, imagine what it'd be like for a lifetime? Utter, utter torture. I can't wait until I can get back to sleep again (hardcore drugs are helping me here) but until I do, I'm starting to dread the end of the day when I have to try to go to sleep.

Anyway, just thought I'd share, it probably explains the lack of updates around here anyway :)

Anyone else here have trouble sleeping?

Used to really bother me as a kid. Nowadays, I just bung the TV on or whatever. I stay up until my body just can't stay awake, then I get a couple of hours sleep before I have to get up for college (but, realistically, I sleep in and get quite a lot of sleep)

I've missed so much college time because I've been sleeping in... truth is, I'm not even going to bed that late, only about 1-2am. Back in the day, waking up at 7am with only 5 hours kip was no problem. Now, I just can't get out of bed...

Snuggly it's a problem that has plagued me for about a year or so now. In the past I have 'dabbled' with certain recreational drugs and have been a heavy drinker, so I wonder whether this is one of the major causes.

I can't seem to sleep at night, although recently I've been working nights, and have had no trouble getting to sleep when I've got home in the morning. Something weird about that. maybe I'm just naturally nocturnal.

I tried those 'nytol' sleeping tablets for a while, which work, but make you feel drowsy as hell the next day, so I stopped. I tried herbal sleep tablets, which are too mild really, you need to take loads, but just feel drowsy and horrible, without getting to sleep. stopped them also.

my mum dabbles a lot in aromatherapy. There are several essential oils you can burn in your room which aid sleep - these do work if you don't mind your room smelling like a tarts handbag, but you need to be at least tired to start off with, they won't work if you're wide awake.

there is no miracle cure I don't think.

I used to think going to bed after midnight was a bad sign, but then it got later and later... now I sleep regularly at 4, I just can't help it.

I tend to wake up at 6am just so I can look at the alarm clock and think, "yes!" I still have 45mins before I need to get up.

I have had strange sleeping patterns of late, and they are due to get worse.

I have this on and off, usually lasts for a week or two. It really does suck. I end up getting to sleep at about five O'clock, which means I have just enough sleep to make me feel really tired again the next day. It's a git. If there was no sleep at all it would be better. I don't know how it works, but it does.

My sleeping pattern's been strange too for about 5/6 days. Been waking up early without an alarm clock! Now *that* is bad..!

The body releases sleep inducing hormones into the blood stream after a certain activity has taken place. If you can't sleep then try it, if it doesn't work at least you'll be still awake to have another go...

It's a win-win situation.

Strangley ive been having trouble sleeping as well, up until last night.

Fortunately i managed to get a pretty decent 7-7.5 hours, its not as much as i would have liked, but its better than the 5-6 hours i was geting before, i felt really run down.
