Most of it has to be the culture of fear (as illustrated by the film) though.
I thought Bowling For Columbine was excellent. It does make you think about America and gun crime. They blame video games, movies , music etc for gun violence, yet in Britain we are subject to the same as what the US has and were no were near as bad. I know the UK has a less available gun market, as you can't walk into a Bank and get a gun with a new bank account. But think of Canada and its 7 million guns compared to its 32 million population, thats less than 1 in 5 people owning a gun, I know some may own 2 or more so the actual figure could be 1 in 8. But the number of guns to the number of gun deaths is pretty amazing, and does beg the question about gun death in the US.

68 x 3.3 (60 million in UK right?) = 224.4
So if you took the number of people into account (65 in Australia but how many live there?) America still leads with almost 11,000.
