Finally got around to getting a new DVD player after a few months of not being bothered, and went to Blockbusters to catch up on movies I've missed.
And there ain't that many of interest to be honest.
Anyways:

Narc
Worthy, hard-hitting, gritty. And dull.
Another movie for Jason Patric to grow a mini-beard and act tortured for 2hrs, Ray Liotta be tubby and goateed and everybody to stumble through rainy, filtered cityscapes trying to uncover the facts of some distant murder yadda yadda yadda. It's just one of those movies that shouts for 2hrs "LIFE SUCKS! BEING A COP IS HARD! FAMILY LIFE CAN SUFFER! DRUGS ARE BAD" etc etc. Not a bad film, just not very interesting. Good opening though.

X-Men 2
More of the same.
Gandalf being slightly campily bad and a bunch of mutants conveniently being in situations where their powers are of use.
Nightcrawler. The stupidest waste of a superhero character ever.
"I shall attempt to assasinate the President and be menacing. Then I shall sit in the Xman jet for an hour and look slightly huffy, with zero exposition about how or why I became the way I am"
Wolverine doing his thing, but with almost none of the arrogance of the 1st film. Captain Picard spends 85% of the movie with his eyes closed and a rubbish helmet thing on.
I loved the 1st one, and this just seemed like a 2hr trailer for bits I didn't catch in X-Men 1.

The Hulk
Fantastic. Loved this one.
Nick Nolte being shabbily insane, Sam Elliot's moustache making another appearance, Jennifer Connolly taunting me from inside my tv screen, pretending she can't see me and doesn't want me...you little minx you...And Chopper being green and mental.
Excellently edited, split-screen type stuff.
And Hulk Poodle. A massive, hulked out French Poodle.
And shut up about CGI blah-blah, you haven't done anything better so get back to your college courses and act all Trauffaut in the refectory ok Orsen?

Rules of Attraction
Good stuff. Didn't really enjoy Killing Zoe and have no other comparison for Roger Avery's stuff.
However, this is a top film. Dawson being a badass and a bunch of others all being young Americans.
Trivia note: Dawson's character, Sean Bateman, is the brother of Patrick Bateman. Same author, same characters.
Fantastic, innovative opening of a party from 3 different perspectives and a very cool split-screen thing when Dawson and Goth Virgin meet up.
And Eric Stoltz getting a "hummer" from Goth Virgin.
-----

There you go.
Couldn't bring myself to watch Charlie's Angels 2 or Terminator 3 because they look like ass.

Not sure if you mean literally or not hear.
And your prediction of T3 is practically spot on - dreadful movie, basically repeating T2, but with dodgier acting, and dreadful lines.
I can't belive I watched all of it.

X-Men 2 was quite good I thought, although you're right about Nightcrawler. He could've been more involved and stuff.

That was the shapeshifter - you can see the little orange glint in her eyes when Cox and co walk away at the beginning, not really too hard to miss. That's why he's changed his views on mutants too, she's undercover and is trying to lobby for mutant peace in his name. I liked X-Men 2, much better than the first one but still lots of room for improvement. The mansion assault was ace, and the jailbreak scene was excellent. Cox and Gandalf are top.

As for the rest...

Narc - excellent film, really grabbed me. Don't really like Jason Patric, or Ray Liotta actually, but they're both great here. Yeah, it's 'gritty' and 'urban' and it's got that now cliched bleached print look, but it's worth your time. Not exactly excitement central though.

Hulk - haven't seen this yet, will do though. Looks interesting, different from your average superhero movie.

Rules of Attraction - probably one of my favourite movies of the year (or last year, whatever). Dawson as a massive foreheaded college jock banging chicks and doing drugs - what could go wrong? Excellent visual imagery from Roger Avary, as Goaty said the opening party sequence, the backwards title sequence, the split-screen merger, the snowflake teardrop, the praying mantis on Dawson's face... all good stuff, and an odd little ending too. The character of Victor is brilliant, just like he is in Glamorama.

I couldn't stand Rules of Attraction. I found it thoroughly dull.

I was quite impressed with the opening scene, especially the way it was shown from the three different angles, but it was the best bit of the movie. All the stuff we saw after, that lead up to this point didn't really bother me at all.

Eric Stolz was good in it though.

As for Roger Avary's other stuff, isn't it just Killing Zoe as far as directing goes? I liked that, I thought it worked well with Eric Stolz not really knowing what he'd gotten into, or what was going on with everyone speaking French around him.

As for the others on the list, saw X-Men 2 at the cinema and prefered it to the original. Thought Magneto's escape was particularly cool, with the iron in the guards blood. Though the climax was a bit disappointing. More than a bit, actually. I guess the problem is that they keep on thinking about what they want from the next movie, rather than just focussing on what's going on in the current one.

Hulk I liked. Could tell people were getting frustrated in the cinema when it took so long for Hulk to appear. I liked the build up though. Nick Nolte looked like an old tramp, which was funny. I have to say, the ending didn't make a great deal of sense, couldn't really tell what was going on on screen with them in a mess, plus some of the other action scenes, particulary the Hulk dogs, were in too much darkness. Hopefully it'll look better on DVD.

You're right about T3. It is just the second film again, no twist at all, though not quite as gay as the second one in terms of 'thumbs up'. It was okay, just not as good as the second one, and not a patch on the original.

You should see Charlies Angels 2 though, because it's a big dumb movie in which Cameron Diaz rides a bucking bronco in the first five minutes.

Hulk: I own Hulk....Dosen't anyone find it a bit strangely surreal? And, dare I say it, a bit too superhero?? The fight scene @ the end is very mind numbingly weird. Pah, marvel at its most creative I guess.
Oh and did anyone laugh when Bruce is describing what it was like to be the Hulk, and his heart was going; "BOOM.....BOOM.....BOOM" Lmao :ŹD

Yeah, true.
And unless I'm mistaken, didn't the senator bloke from the 1st movie die in a big puddle of water?
How was he in the sequel?

There was just no zing in this one, Wolverine just had no attitude, no sarcasm like the original.
I did like the bit where they all froze in the mall, but that was nicked from The Matrix.
Brian Cox was good though, the one scene I loved was when he looked at the impersonating Wolverine
"I know my own work anywhere. Kill it"

And c'mon, Wolverine and Cyclops crying together, hugging each other in the Xplane "She's gone"?
Gay Mutant lovefest.
That woman with the adamantium claws was cool, but she died too easy and fast.
And you can't have water and a spastic as a finale.

But I can't forget, however much I might want to.
I can just see the execs round the table:
"So like, dude, Terminator 3"
"But he died in 2"
"Yeah, but he can be, like, the protector again!"
"But we did that already"
"I know...er..."
"How's about....a female terminator!"
"Cool! So what does Arnie do?"
"Protect John Connor"
"But we did that in 2, that was the twist"
"Shut up. Female terminator! He can say "She'll be back", trust me"
"But Cameron won't touch it, neither will Linda Hamilton. Even Edward Furlong bolted"
"Yeah well we got Arnie"
"He's 50, with a pig's heart"
"Mendozaaaaaaaa!!"

T3 is one of those movies I'll just never watch.
I know it will annoy/bore me, so I'll pass rather than subject myself to it.

X-Men 2. Yep, that sums it up. They battle water and a retard.
*shakes head*
Gandalf is good though, as is the blue naked chameleon chick.

Just try and forget for a moment that it's a Terminator film, and you might be surprised how much you enjoy it.

Nice varied choice there, Goaty. Now I'm going to give my critique on your choices, as is the fashion:

Narc:
I hear it's quite gritty, but haven't seen it yet - will do soon.

X-men 2:
Good film, but it didn't really excel over the first one. Like you said: "more of the same". And as Wookie, or YH said (can't remember): "They fight water and a 'tard".

The Hulk:
Boring, boring, boring. Didn't like this one too much, except when he was smashing stuff - that was quite cool. Nothing to do with the CGI - how the hell else would they be able to get a giant green man on screen!? Nolte was good in it, so too was the girl from Labyrinth. That bit with the poodle dogs was crap though!!!1111111

Rules of Attraction:
Yeah, good stuff. The bit with the girl comitting suicide seemed a bit tacked on and pointless, and I swear I've seen that exact same thing done before, with the going back and showing her around Dawson. But overall it was very good, although I haven't got round to reading the books yet.

I quite like my bi-weekly trips to Blockbuster. I could actually spend an evening in there laughing at the lame titles, without renting anything out. Next time: "Ankle Biters"!

No,I really don't.
The 1st one was fantastic.
The 2nd was a bloated exercise in special effects with the cheesiest ending ever and making The Terminator into a robo-stepdad.
Terrible, terrible.

And even the trailer for T3 makes me wince and watch the original.
T1 - lean, mean sci-fi thriller
T2 - lazy, unnecessary edam-fest with a fonzie thumbs-up ending.
T3 - a retarded teen version of the 1st one, replete with comedy one-liners and a 50+ year old Austrian with a pig's heart shuffling around.
