Surprised there hasn't been a topic about this yet. The latest multiplayer news is available on ign http://ps2.ign.com/articles/610/610218p1.html shows that you can have 32 players in one game and that is one massive step for ps2 online. Everything else you can read for yourself, and you might want to check out the videos as well.

It's hard for me to go back to SOCOM after playing Xbox Live because it seems so crap compared to Live.

Yeah me too... One night when socom 2 was down I fired up socom 1 and it is just not the same, it was boring and I only had it on for 5 minutes it was that bad.

I was talking about the XBox 360 version of GR3 :)

Basically, SOCOM 3's only hope is that existing PS2 users buy it and use it because they think it'll be better than SOCOM 2. This line of thinking is great, as long as they haven't seen any GR3 footage, because GR3 makes SOCOM 3 look like Cannon Fodder in comparison.

I'd guess SOCOM 3 will get a release around September, but with GR3 hitting the stores around Christmas Sony will have to pray that SOCOM 3 players are too immersed to notice the XBox 360 launch and stay that way until the PS3 arrives.

By the way, PS3 adverts are starting to appear on billboards, looks like Sony are trying to take the wind out of XBox 360's launch. I'd guess again that Sony are hoping SOCOM 3 will be the 'killer app.' that tides PS2 users over until the PS3 arrives (2006 JP/2007 Eur)?

Having seen the footage of SOCOM 3 though, I think I'll stick with SOCOM 1 and hope Final Fantasy XII will tide me over.
