Seeing how popular the GBA is, I think that Square will do ANYTHING to put it's games on it. Yes, even make games for Sony's main rival. Sony must be so upset right now...
What promises to be the best launch games around for a machine would be Zelda, Mario, Star fox and Mario Kart, really the same old combination is always there.
Will we get all those below par Turok games or those third rate Goldeneye clones?
Time will tell for Nintendo.
I'm sorry, but who's to say that Snake won't be coming to the Gamecube? There's no way to know he won't. So, I've a question: Would you rather have the console with Solid Snake, Square's games, and Red Faction, or the console with (likely) Solid Snake, Joanna Dark, (likely) Red Faction, Zelda, Mario, Metroid, et al? I'm sorry, but Sony's lack of 1st-party support is going to kill it, since the largest number of their titles will probably get ported to other systems. Lack of original content will not defeat a system with tons of it, not to mention all the games the other has.
Mulitplayer looks fun too.
Ah well. :0)
Just kidding, but yeah....it should be good.....(mind)
The Game
IGN has "found" a report given to developers about the development and advancement of games on the system, and have reported on Nintendo saying quite clearly that the ARAM, or Auxiliary RAM, can be upgraded through use of the port underneath... and it is the most obvious possibility.
How much RAM? Well the upgrade would increase total RAM to 75MB... an incredible amount for a console.
However, more interestingly is another undenied rumour that has been around a long time, and was just about confirmed by Miyamoto a while back. The Gamecube will utilise the ARAM to quicken loading times, by transfering data from the disc to it.
The amount of ARAM, if upgraded, could COMPLETELY wipe out loading times.
This is quite nice.
However... we can only take these things with a pinch of salt. Every console released by Nintendo, including the Gameboy, has been made from the start to be able to have expansion ports, for things to go in at a later date... and they have only ever used the ones in the N64. The bottom one, for the failed 64DD, and the memory one... of which only 10% of N64 owners have a memory upgrade, according to Planet Gamecube, formally Planet N-2000... a decent web site, all Gamecube fans should read.
On the other hand mind... the expansion ports on the Gamecube are quite different. They are there, by the way Miyamoto has been speaking, for a reason. The modem is an obvious one, but the two others are still unknown.
Unfortuantly mind, Nintendo can't just add the memory into the console now, and sell it at launch with the extra memory in, even if they wanted to.
Gamecube manufactoring has been going on for some time now, and to add the extra memory would mean for all the ready made consoles to be opened up to put the new hardware in, probably causing another delay.
...By the way, I am the only one who gets terribly excited by thinking that there are already Gamecube's made and waiting on a shelf ready to go to shops? :D
Nintendo have GOT to show Non-Nintendo fans that they will provide games they are used to playing, like MGS, Ridge Racer, Tekken, Sonic AS WELL AS, the Nintendo classics. Nintendo can't afford to lose any games, but they have got to get more, and the more 'AAA' games for launch the beter. And as good as Rare are they and Nintendo will not be able to provide enough before Gamecube Launch. This is where all the 3rd party developers come in. If Nintendo boost the morale of the developers the chances are Nintendo will build on a solid relationship, if, like in the days of the N64, Nintendo 'screw' people and don't keep deadlines then they are done for! And you can say goodbye to Konami and Capcom
