Apparently when I get broadband installed next week I need an Ethernet connection for it, but not being a techno-head I dont know what one is.

I have a few spare USB ports around the back of the old dinosaur but I dont know what else there is.

What does an Ethernet connection/port look like?

You should have the option of either an ethernet or a USB connection.

If you don't get the choice, you've got a pikey modem.

just go into your 'control panel'
then 'system'
and 'system devices' or something similar.

look under the heading 'network'
if there is a network card mentioned, that it says is working ok, you have an ethernet card.

If not, they're only 15 quid and take 5 minutes to install.
