The "General Games Chat" forum, which includes Retro Game Reviews, has been archived and is now read-only. You cannot post here or create a new thread or review on this forum.
Over the coming weeks we are upgrading our search engine. It's having a triple destructurisation operation and invisible lurking terms enhancements.
The prize will go to the person who finds the MOST VALID PROBLEMS across our WHOLE PRODUCT RANGE in the SEARCH FACILITY.
If you think you should be able to search on "Horror Movies", but nothing comes up, then add it to your list.
If you think people will mis-spell gran turismo, then add that too - but test it first.
Use short lists if possible but multiple posts will count together. i.e. all your posts on this subject will add up and count towards the prize.
Closes 9 am on April 1st, 2001.
I recommend you read the details of our searching process which you can click to from a link at Site Map. Basically we use the start of a word, so a search on "thunder" will find "thunderball". If several words are combined it must find all.

> Hold on- are you going through SRs entire DVD catalogue trying to find faults- maybe would win you gameaday but it would take hours!
Most of the results can be used in a general fashion. Our buyers write all the product descriptions: If they are dropping the word "The" from the start of dvd titles for the sake of alphabetical order then they need to understand if this causes problems with searches on the internet.
i.e. they should apply that logic for the future, and this is exactly what we are looking for. Almost all the individual problems which have been pointed out are a lesson to us for the future.
Tell us what terms you are searching the internet (i.e. searching the World Wide Web) for too, and which search engines do you most like?
OK, don't tell us anything inappropriate. We don't want to know if you are searching for edible panties!
"Hellraiser 2" fails. It's the Roman numerals problem again.
"THE THIRTEENTH WARRIOR" fails.
"Youve got mail" fails, so if you try "You've got mail" you get the "YOU\'VE GOT MAIL" thing happening again.
Searching for comedy "Jungle to Jungle", revealed "The Concrete Jungle" AFTER BEING FRAMED BY HER BOYFRIEND, ELIZABETH IS SENT TO A CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION WHERE DRUG TAKING, RAPE, LESBIAN BEATINGS ARE EVERYDAY OCCURRENCES. Then I realised it was actually called Jungle 2 Jungle.
"3 MUSKETEERS" fails.
A general lack of the word "The" where it is in the film titles leads to many fruitless searches.
"The 5th Element" doesn't work.
If you search "3 Kings" you get "ALADDIN KING OF THIEVES"
I know the films called "The Last Line of Defense" but shouldn't using the UK spelling (defence) also work?
"TEN THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU" fails.
I'm sure it was called "Interview With THE Vampire" not "A Vampire" but if you search "Interview With THE Vampire" you get the Buffy Box set.
Shouldn't it be "Amityville 3" or "The Amityville Horror 3" rather than "Amitville 3"
"LA Takedown" reveals one version of the film, "L A Takedown" reveals 2!
"From Dusk Till Dawn" only reveals the original, "From Dusk Til Dawn" reveals the original, and the first sequel.
"LA Confidential" fails. It has to be "L A Confidential".
And Damospud, there's no accounting for others stupidity, you have to try to make the searches work for what others may think the film / game is called, such as "7".
> DVD searches:
"LOCK STOCK AND 2 SMOKING BARRELS"
> Fails.
I always thought he spelt it "Vinny
> Jones"?
Searching "7" brings up 20 things. None of
> which are the film, Seven.
"The Sixth Sense" "The
> 6th Sense" and "6th Sense" all fail.
"GONE IN
> SIXTY SECONDS" fails.
Why does "TWINE" work for
> the game, but not the film?
"The Lost Boys"
> fails.
"Brave Heart" fails.
Meka- can I put you straight here-
Seven is titled "Seven"- there is no point giving a numerical search value.
I agree with Brave Heart.
Gone in Sixty Seconds hasnt even been released yet- you can only buy through rental and if you dont, youll have to wait till November(checked through Blackstar.co.uk for that one)
Should the search be also for Lock Stock as well as Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels?
Braveheart is all one word- title of the film.
Vinny Jones is spelt wrong.
